Position on Stem Cell Research

The Arthritis Society follows the Canadian law and abides by all federal legislation governing the funding of medical research.

The federal legislation on stem cell research incorporates the funding guidelines issued by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canada's major federal funding agency for health research.

All federally-funded researchers and medical schools in Canada are monitored by rules set down by medical ethics committees. This includes all research funded by The Arthritis Society.

The Arthritis Society assures donors who oppose any research, program or service funded by The Society, that their donations will be applied to alternate peer-reviewed research, programs or services, funded by The Arthritis Society.
