Pro-Abortion Teacher Sues Catholic School for Firing Her
WILMINGTON, November 14, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A teacher at an all-girl Catholic school in Delaware, who was fired for signing a pro-abortion petition, is suing the school for "illegally" firing her. Michele Curay-Cramer, 32, was fired from Ursuline Academy when her name appeared in a pro-abortion advertisement the local newspaper.
The lawsuit said the school's action violated the woman's rights under the Civil Rights Act. Curay-Cramer claims that she is still a bona fide Catholic: "The Catholic catechism says that if you do what you do with a clean conscience, then you've done nothing wrong."
In its defence, the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington wrote: "The Constitution guarantees every religious institution the right to practice and uphold the teachings of its faith, and the diocese and bishop strongly support the right of every Catholic school to ensure that its faculty members teach and uphold the doctrine of the Catholic faith."
