November 6 Vote Likely on United Nations Cloning Ban

UNITED NATIONS, October 22, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - LifeSiteNews.com has learned from sources at the United Nations that both lobbyists and delegates attending a crucial United Nations Committee meeting on human cloning suspect a vote will be held on the issue at the close of their meeting on November 6.
Deliberations on a proposal to enact a United Nations ban on human cloning have stalled over opposition to a ban on all human cloning by supporters of a Franco-German position asking for a ban on only 'reproductive' cloning. A large majority of nations support the Costa Rican resolution, which seeks a comprehensive ban on human cloning.
The committee again failed to reach consensus after meeting on Oct. 20-21. The last count of support for the total cloning ban saw more than 50 countries supporting it, while some 18 supported only the partial ban.
