Ontario Liberal Party Leader McGuinty Comes Out in Favour of Homosexual 'Marriage'

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

TORONTO, September 11, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Dalton McGuinty, Leader of the Liberal Party, and according to some polls leading in the quest to become the next Premier of Ontario, has again endorsed homosexual 'marriage.' McGuinty who has often said he is Catholic this time painted himself as a "small-c conservative" while endorsing homosexual 'marriage'.

"Terri and I have the most small-c conservative relationship going -- high school sweethearts, dated for eight years, had four kids in five years, married now 23 years and we are hopelessly in love," he said in comments recorded in the Ottawa Citizen. "I don't feel threatened or offended in any way at all if a gay or lesbian couple chose to marry and I don't see how it's threatening to the future of my children either."

McGuinty's commitment to homosexual activism is long-standing. During the previous election his press secretary revealed publicly that if candidates for the Liberals wanted McGuinty to sign their papers (which he must do if they are to run as Liberals) they must commit to expanding homosexual rights.

Opposition Slams Justice Minister's Cross-Canada Homosexual 'Marriage' Tour

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

OTTAWA, September 11, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Federal Justice Minister Martin Cauchon's cross-country tour is nothing but a sham designed to convince Canadians that he cares about their views, says Canadian Alliance Justice Critic Vic Toews. Cauchon launched his tour today in Winnipeg with a view to convincing Canadians of his plan to legalize same sex marriage. Today, he is scheduled to meet with Mayor Glen Murray and the city's Task Force on Equity, and is expected to visit BC, Alberta, and Ontario later this week.

"It's a complete disgrace that this Minister sent the Justice Committee all over the country to find out what Canadians thought about this issue, and spent a quarter of a million dollars doing so, then decided he didn't like what they had to say. He didn't get the answers he wanted, so now instead of listening to Canadians, he's more interesting in telling them what Ottawa thinks," Toews said.

At Cauchon's request, between January and June 2003, the House of Commons Justice Committee considered oral evidence and written briefs from hundreds of Canadians in every region of the country. The Committee was heavily divided on the issue, but was expected to release its report in June. Instead, the report was pre-empted by the Liberals when they forced a vote at the Committee, and replaced the usual committee members with those who would vote 'yes' to same sex marriage.

"Recent polls show that Canadians are clearly split right down the middle of this debate. And furthermore, they are not fooled by these manipulative Liberal tactics. Next week when Parliament is back in session, the Canadian Alliance will demand political accountability from the Liberals by hosting a vote on the definition of marriage," Toews said.

Canada Family Action Coalition Executive Director Brian Rushfeldt echoed the sentiments calling Cauchon's excursion a "tax-funded tour of indoctrination" promising "we will ensure that marriage, as well as Bill C-250 (hate crimes) are election issues."

UK Fertility Specialist Warns Women are Being Experimented on With IVF

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

LONDON, September 11, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A prominent UK physician has serious misgivings over the use of many fertility treatments that are now standard practice in IVF facilities. Lord Robert Winston, head of fertility at Hammersmith Hospital, London, said that more clinical trials were needed before many of the standard IVF "treatments" could be made safe. He feels also that experiments should be carried out on animals and "spare" embryos left over from IVF procedures.

Lord Winston surprised an audience at the British Association Festival of Science by saying that he felt IVF patients were being used as guinea pigs in fertility experiments. When asked whether IVF patients were being experimented on, he replied: "That's exactly what I am saying."

Doctors are introducing new IVF procedures to boost clinic revenues without proper research being done to ensure safety. "I'm not arguing that IVF is dangerous. What I am arguing is that there isn't any form of properly informed consent…If you are using treatments that might damage somebody - such as an unborn child - then you have a duty to tell people," he said.

Lord Winston said that practices such as the cryogenic freezing of embryos, the "maturing" of embryos in vitro for a few days before implantation had not been sufficiently tested before their use on humans. The motive, he says seems to be monetary, with the commercial aspect of IVF facilities, being emphasized over clinical research.

Pro-life commentators have been consistently asserting that women, and their children created through IVF, are being abused in the multi-billion dollar fertility industry. Dr. Dianne N. Irving, a graduate of The Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University, has warned numerous panels of scientists and politicians for many years that the practices of most fertility treatments are unethical, dangerous to women and children and amount to the use of patients, without their consent, as human test subjects.

New Ad Unveils California's Unholy Trinity

Pro-Abortion "Catholics" Schwarzenegger, Davis and Bustamante

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

SACRAMENTO, September 11, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Wednesday, September 17, 2003, the Crusade for the Defense of Our Catholic Church, a project of American Life League, will hold a press conference to unveil its newest ad: California's Unholy Trinity. "The Catholic Church teaches unequivocally that every human being's life is sacred and should be defended at all stages-from conception to natural death," said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. "As a native Californian, I'm saddened that the top three contenders - Arnold Schwarzenegger, Cruz Bustamante and Gray Davis - are unabashedly campaigning on their 'Catholic' heritage, while openly defiling the Church's teachings by their support of abortion-on-demand."

American Life League's Crusade for the Defense of Our Catholic Church - as it did this past May with the release of its California Deadly Dozen ad campaign - is once again asking California's Catholic bishops to make clear to all in their flock that you cannot be pro-abortion and still be a Catholic in good standing. "It is time for Cardinal Roger Mahony, as a shepherd of the Church, to dispel the lie that a Catholic can be 'personally pro-life' while publicly being pro-abortion," said Joseph Starrs, director of the Crusade. "The Church has made it clear on many occasions, most recently this past January, that 'Catholic' politicians cannot be pro-abortion. This makes one wonder why the cardinal appears to be doing nothing more than appeasing public figures and celebrities, when as their spiritual leader he should be challenging them."

The ad will run Sept. 17 in the Sacramento Bee, and it will appear in several other newspapers throughout California and the United States prior to the recall election.

Australian Senate Kowtows to United Nations Order on Legal Recognition of Homosexual Unions

SYDNEY, September 11, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Australian Senate has passed a non-binding motion by Democratic Senator Brian Greig calling on the Commonwealth government to introduce legislation to grant legal recognition to homosexual unions. The motion came in response to the United Nations order to provide marriage benefits to homosexual couples.

As LifeSite reported September 4th, the United Nations Human Rights Commission ruled that Australia, in denying homosexual partners benefits enjoyed by heterosexual partners, was in violation of Article 26 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

Windsor/Detroit Strip Clubs Advertise in University Paper to Pay Tuition

WINDSOR, September 11, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A chain of strip clubs in the Windsor/Detroit area is advertising in the University of Windsor newspaper that they will pay the tuition of dancers on top of wages and tip if they maintain a B average or above. The paper is funded mainly by mandatory student fees.

Gillian Long of Campaign Coalition Youth reacted with horror to the news. "These organizations are turning our sisters and daughters into whores when they are at their most vulnerable: when they are young teens, just learning to be women, and as university students, away from home and struggling under adult responsibilities and economic burdens for the first time," she told LifeSite.

YM magazine, a magazine for pre-teen/teens, this month ran an article about a Playboy model who paid her tuition working for Hugh Hefner and how great she thought it was. In April, Glamour magazine printed a story by a former stripper who 10 years ago wrote about paying her way through university by stripping. At the time, she said it was great, but now says the business almost destroyed her and she feels remorse for leading other women into the sordid business.

India Refuses to Legislate in Favour of Homosexual Acts

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

NEW DELHI, September 12, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - India's Hindu nationalist government has informed the country's courts that it will not legislate in favour of homosexuality in the country, on grounds that "Indian society is intolerant to the practice of homosexuality/ lesbianism."

Homosexual activists under the guise of an NGO, the New Delhi-based Naz AIDS Foundation, had submitted a petition against Section 377 of the Penal Code, which states: "whoever voluntarily has sex against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years."

A government commission reported that public disapproval of homosexuality remains "strong enough to justify it being treated as a criminal offence even where the adults indulge in it in private." To change this legal framework, it said, could "well open the flood gates of delinquent behaviour and be construed as providing unbridled licence for the same."

Ireland's Anglican Bishops Shun Homosexual Controversy

BELFAST, September 11, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The bishops of Ireland's (Anglican) Church of Ireland say they do not want the organization's governing General Synods to become scenes of "confrontation" over homosexual issues -- and consequently will not address such issues until further notice.

In a document entitled "Human Sexuality," in response to the recent Episcopalian ordination of a homosexual bishop who left his wife and children to cohabit with a boyfriend, the bishops wrote: "The current debate within Anglicanism has shown that harsh condemnatory attitudes on both sides in the current debate have not gone away. ... There is still no unanimity on the question itself across the Churches. In trying to discern the mind of Christ, the bishops believe that the Church of Ireland as a whole ought to address the question prayerfully, humbly, carefully and generously."

Scottish Cabinet Passes 'Homosexual Marriage' Buck to London

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

EDINBURGH, September 11, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Scotland's cabinet has decided not to make a decision about homosexual marriage legislation. Instead, Scotland will defer to London to avoid having different rules on either side of the border.

According to the BBC, "The Scottish Cabinet has ruled that, while [Scots] ministers have the power to legislate north of the border, they would rather wait for Westminster to legislate for the whole of the UK." The UK Parliament is currently debating registered partnerships.

Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson said: "While I accept that for same-sex couples this is a very important issue, it is not an immediate priority for the overwhelming majority of Scotland's people. But taking action to combat crime and anti-social behaviour is."
