Study Finds Abstinence and Monogamy Promotion Effective but Neglected in AIDS Prevention Programmes
Also cautiously admits sexual promiscuity has led to rapid spread of AIDS
April 12, 2004, (LifeSiteNews.com) - The British Medical Journal reports on a study that has concluded what pro-family advocates have been saying all along about the spread of HIV. The study cautiously admits that sexual promiscuity has led to the rapid spread of AIDS and suggests "partner reduction" as a solution in AIDS prevention programmes. The study was conducted by a group of researchers funded by several organizations, including the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Geneva, Switzerland, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The study's authors have concluded, "It seems obvious, but there would be no global AIDS pandemic were it not for multiple sexual partnerships. The rate of change of sexual partners-especially concurrent partners-is a crucial determinant in the spread of sexually transmitted infections including HIV."
Contrary to the vast promotion of condoms by most international aid organizations, the study's authors recommend the promotion of abstinence before marriage and fidelity within it. "Moreover, it seems important and feasible to promote monogamy and partner reduction alongside abstinence and use of condoms. People seem generally able to grasp that the root problem with HIV transmission is risky sex…"
This admission dovetails with a report in the New York Times that says that heterosexual African American women are among the highest risk group for HIV/AIDS from bisexual men who do not reveal their homosexual activities. According to a recent government study, black women are 23 times more likely to be infected with AIDS than white women and that 30% of all black bisexual males are HIV infected and 90% of those don't know they are infected.
