Vaccination not Compulsory under Canadian Law
Those who disagree with use of aborted babies for vaccine are exempted
OTTAWA, April 27, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Aborted fetal tissues are increasingly the tissue source used for growing human vaccines. In Canada, no routine vaccine alternatives are available for the typical triple vaccines such as the MMR, although single entities, such as tetanus which do not use aborted fetal tissue, can be ordered through a physician if a patient is willing.
On the Children of God for Life (COG) web-site, the authors argue that human lives are deliberately taken in order to furnish cell lines for the production of vaccines. The COG also states that, similar to organ transplantation, tissues must be "harvested" in a live form in order to be of any use for the purpose of creating a vaccine, "In aborted fetal tissue research, as in any type of human tissue or organ transplant or research, it is essential that the samples collected are still living." This type of harvest implies informed consent by the mother for her child to be used for scientific or commercial purposes.
The COG site lists manufacturers and tissue source for the U.S. The chickenpox, rubella, and hepatitis A vaccines are grown on human tissues. Polio and rabies vaccines are exclusively grown on human tissues in Canada. Exceptions are available in the U.S.
Immunization is optional in Canada. The Health Canada Statement On Immunization says, "Unlike some countries, immunization is not mandatory in Canada; it cannot be made mandatory because of the Canadian Constitution. Only three provinces have legislation or regulations under their health-protection acts to require proof of immunization for school entrance. Ontario and New Brunswick require proof for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, and rubella immunization. In Manitoba, only measles vaccination is covered. It must be emphasized that, in these three provinces, exceptions are permitted for medical or religious grounds and reasons of conscience; legislation and regulations must not be interpreted to imply compulsory immunization.
