Mississippi Abortionist says He won't Commit Abortions Again
JACKSON, Mississippi, December 20, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Abortionist Malachy Dehenre, who had his license to practice medicine in Alabama suspended for Malpractice, said he is unlikely to commit abortions ever again there or in Mississippi, even if he gets his license back. An Alabama woman died as a result of the abortion he committed on her there last year.
Dehenre, 54, told The Associated Press on Saturday that he will abide by the decision of the Medical Licensure Commission of Alabama. The commission said Dehenre's treatment of four women between 2000 and 2003 was "immoral, unprofessional or dishonorable," saying his conduct was a danger to the women's lives through "gross malpractice."
Dehenre, reacting to the ruling, said: "I don't know what is immoral in doing what is legal in the country. I think a complication rate like that is extremely low," he also claimed. "If they're punishing me for that, I just have to bear that consequence."
An Alabama woman died 18 hours after receiving a legal abortion from Dehenre in November, 2003. Leigh Ann Stephens Alford, 34, died of a perforated uterus.
All three other women hemorrhaged uncontrollably following their legal abortions from Dehenre, necessitating complete hysterectomies.
The suspension is only for one year. Following a fine of $20,000 and 52 hours of remedial training, Dehenre is free to resume practice.
Pro-Life Mississippi executive director Pat Cartrette was pleased with the ruling. "We are thankful for this decision that affirms that women's safety and health trumps the right to abortion," she said.
