Canadian Homosexual Activist Senator Sent Death Wish Emails to Christians
Wrote "God! you people are sick. God should strike you dead!"
OTTAWA, February 13, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Liberal Senator Laurier L. LaPierre, who was once chastised in the Senate for comparing the Catholic Church to the Taliban, recently sent emails to various Christians concerned about homosexual hate crime Bill C-250. Responding to one email from a Christian concerned about the legislation LaPierre wrote: "God! you people are sick. God should strike you dead!"
The email exchanges were first circulated on the internet by pro-family activist Robert Jason. LifeSiteNews.com called Senator LaPierre's office yesterday to confirm that the Senator did indeed send the emails. The Senator's office responded to LifeSiteNews.com today with a phone call and by sending a copy of an apology from Senator LaPierre.
To a writer that suggested that Bill C-250 may hamper public reading of the Bible which condemns homosexual practice, LaPierre had written: "In a book that is supposed (sic) to speak of love and you find passages of hatred: You should be ashamed of yourself of reading such books!" Responding to the citation of the Biblical quote from Leviticus 18:22 which says "do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable", LaPierre says: "But I am sure you do not follow all that is forbideen (sic) in leviticus. Furthermore, you misinterpret the meanings of the words. If your god teaches you to hate and judge: Then get another god." Regarding a quote from the New Testament where St. Paul writes against homosexuality, LaPierre comments, "Paul was a woman-hater! Do you trust him? Come, come basnish (sic) hatred from your heart. You have faults, you sin --- a hell of a lot i bet--- so there you are. Be just and kind."
The Senator insulted a citizen concerned about C-250 saying, "Dont (sic) preach. You are not intelligent enough to do. Your homophobia is shining through with great force. Be kind and be just. Read other books than the bible: You may learn something." When the citizen signed off with "In God's service", Senator LaPierre fired back: "this letter is more in the devil's service. Don't (sic) give yourself airs.!"
In his letter of apology sent to LifeSiteNews.com LaPierre wrote "On February 7 I answered some emails in a less than Senatorial manner. I am apologizing for my vitriolic answers to two emails." The Senator claims to "respect your right to express your views and your ability to do so" and explains his responses saying he "mistakenly let out months of frustration in responding to you."
Of note, the apology came only after LifeSiteNews.com called the Senator's office a week after he sent the offensive emails. Furthermore, this is not the first time the controversial Senator has directed hateful outbursts at citizens. LifeSiteNews.com reported in 2002 that Senator LaPierre had fired off similarly offensive emails to citizens asking Senators to defend traditional marriage.
