AUGUSTA, February 27, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Maine Senate has approved the sale of the so-called emergency contraceptive, abortifacient morning-after pill without a prescription, to be dispensed by pharmacists. The move makes Maine the sixth state to approve such a measure. Illinois approved a similar measure earlier this week.

The vote carried 20-13 in favour. Maine's Governor is expected to sign the bill into law.
