Pro Life Marchers Congregate in the U.S. Capital for 30th Annual March-For-Life
WASHINGTON, January 19, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - It has been thirty years since the first March-For-Life where, in 1974, 20,000 assembled to mark the day when legalized slaughter of the innocent began. This year LifeSiteNews.com will be reporting live from the March in Washington.
The March is held each year on the day of the infamous Supreme Court Roe vs. Wade decision made in January 1973. Norma McCorvey, who was Jane Roe, the woman who signed the affidavit that was sent to the Supreme Court in 1973, later developed depression, and suffered from drug abuse and alcohol addiction as a result of her abortion. Now, however, McCorvey is a pro-life speaker with Roe No More Ministries, a convert to Catholicism, and March supporter.
LifeSiteNews.com spoke last year with Nellie Gray, the organizer of the 2003 March for Life in Washington, D.C. Gray told LifeSiteNews.com that the official estimate of those at the 2003 March was 200,000.
Jim Hughes, President of Campaign Life Coalition Canada attended the 2003 March and told LifeSiteNews.com that it was "Unbelievable." Hughes recalled "We were standing at the staging area and we couldn't move, it took almost an hour to start walking. It was the coldest day in 10 years in Washington but we were kept warm by a sea of bodies. Everyone was upbeat and positive with average age under 25. It was a joyful mass of people talking, praying, chanting ... a very positive experience."
Read last year's LifeSiteNews.com story which revealed that the March for Life, which drew a few hundred thousand people, received relatively no media coverage at:
