CLC July National News Says Election Proved Being Pro-life Not Only Did Not Hurt But Actually Helped Many Candidates
Toronto July 8, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In its post election July newsletter Campaign Life Coalition states that the Liberal strategy of targeting the Conservatives as social extremists "backfired and it was emphatically proved that being pro-life not did not hurt candidates". "In fact", says CLC, "in many cases it considerably helped them while revealing that abortion obsessed Paul Martin and his Liberal strategists and the NDP were the real fanatics".
Campaign Life goes on to stress that the election results prove "Abortion is NOT the hindrance many political strategists, media pundits and indeed candidates themselves believe it to be. The proof is in the raw facts and numbers" which CLC gives evidence of in the newsletter.
The national pro-life political organization emphasizes that "More pro-life MPs and many pro-life candidates winning by significant margins refuted the lie about pro-life being a political handicap".
CLC says that many Conservatives and Liberal candidates hurt their election chances by their poor response or lack of response to contentious social issues. It said "Especially on contentious issues such as abortion and same-sex unions, what DOES hurt candidates is being coy or evasive about their position. Hiding behind referenda or otherwise being unclear sends mixed signals and gives credence to charges of a hidden agenda, no matter how ridiculous such attacks might be".
