WINNIPEG, July 8, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Manitoba government, after sensibly holding the line for twenty years against funding for private abortuaries, has knuckled under to pressure from the 18 pro-abortion staff of Jane's abortuary in Winnipeg. The province began publicly funding abortions at the centre on Canada Day, July 1.

"Why, after all this time is the government of Manitoba washing its hands of its responsibility to provide good health care for the women of the province," asked Jim Hughes, National President of Campaign Life Coalition. "Tax payers should never have to finance life style choices."

Two women have launched a court case complaining that they had to wait to have their babies killed and were then forced to pay at the Jane's abortuary. The province has reasonably argued that women do not have the right to demand when and where they have an abortion. The Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench has reserved judgment in the case.

"The lobbying being brought to bear on the government and the judicial pressure should show the government the extent to which the pro-abortion women are prepared to go to obtain what they want," said Maria Slykerman, Campaign Life Coalition Manitoba President. "They are demanding that they can choose to kill their babies and they demand that they choose the facility and when they finish choosing, we should pay for it," she continued.

Campaign Life Coalition urges the Manitoba Government to re-think their decision and withhold funding for private facilities where the only procedure is one which kills a healthy human being and injures the mother.
