WASHINGTON, July 12, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A US House of Representatives committee voted Friday to continue its funding embargo of the controversial United Nations Population Fund, the UNFPA. The House Appropriations Committee approved a $19.4 billion foreign aid bill, but denied a Democratic-sponsored initiative to spend $25 million on UNFPA-sponsored "family planning" -- a euphemism for population-control, contraception, abortion, voluntary and coerced abortion.

The denial marks the fourth year the Bush-led administration has withheld the funds, arguing that the UNFPA's support for coerced abortion in China violates US law.
