RAYMORE, Missouri, June 1, 2004 (LifeSIteNews.com) - A judge has issued a stay of the deportation order of an illegal immigrant, because her unborn baby is an American. According to The Kansas City Star, Senior U.S. District Judge Scott O. Wright asked "Isn't that child an American citizen?" He then said the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which ensures that perpetrators of violence against the unborn are tried for their crime, also ensures that this unborn child be allowed to be born on American soil.

Myrna Dick, 29, lied to immigration authorities in 1998, claiming to be an American, and was later slated for deportation back to her native Mexico. Since being in America, she married an American -- their unborn child is now five months old.

"If this child is an American citizen, we can't send his mother back until he is born," Wright argued.

A U.S. Immigration Department spokeswoman told a Washington Times reporter that she'd never heard of anyone being allowed to stay in America because they were pregnant.
