Canadian Federal Election Prayer Campaign Letter to Pastors and Organizations
Prayer is the most powerful tool at our disposal. We invite you to join in our prayer drive for the duration of the federal election and that you would make it part of your daily prayers and your public prayers on Sunday, June 20 and Sunday June 27. The suggested prayer:
“We implore you Lord that all Canadians give first priority to the right to life and the dignity of the family when they vote in the upcoming election.”
We encourage all Canadians of faith, of whatever political affiliation, to pray and work specifically for this election and to become actively involved. This election could be pivotal in stemming the anti-life tide and beginning the restoration of full respect and protection for all human life. It could also mark the beginning of a restoration of marriage and renewed respect for the family.
For Christians, and other sincere and faithful believers in God, the right to life is the primary basis of all human rights. Therefore, only candidates who would protect life are worthy of our support. Protecting our unborn citizens is not only a grave obligation of justice but also ensures the future of our country.
Most Canadians are concerned about a whole host of human rights issues, such as fighting poverty, abuse, racism and religious discrimination. However, the right to life is pre-eminent. Without this, none of the other considerations come into play.
Both Evangelical and Catholic leaders have spoken out clearly on the issue.
Focus on the Family’s Dr. James Dobson, likely the most popular Christian leader in America, has asked: “ Would you vote for a candidate who would support the killing of five – year – old boys and girls whose parents no longer wanted them? Would it matter whether or not you agreed with that politician on economic matters or other issues? Would you get under a ‘ big tent’ with a party that had this one teeny weenie flaw which they might call ‘pro-choice’ on child eradication’ within its platform? I pray not.”
Pope John Paul 11 has long insisted Catholics give first consideration when voting to issues of life and family. Canadian Catholic Bishop Fred Henry elucidated the Church’s position comparing the common political line, “ I’m personally opposed to abortion, but I cannot force my morality on others” to someone being “ personally opposed to child abuse” but unwilling to defend abused kids.
Please join in our campaign with prayer and fasting (if possible). There are less than three weeks left before voting is completed. Let us fill the heavens with our pleadings to our Heavenly Father through His Son our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
“ We implore you Lord that all Canadians give first priority to the right to life and the dignity of the family when they vote in the upcoming election.”
In Christ,
John-Henry Westen
