Pro-Life Leader Says "it would be crazy to replace a solid pro-lifer" with a pro-abortion Conservative

HALIBURTON, ON, June 18, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - By campaigning on a pro-abortion and pro-homosexual 'marriage' ticket, Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin has created a major problem for pro-life and pro-family Liberal candidates struggling to convince supporters that they will remain true to their values. Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock Liberal MP John O'Reilly has taken out a full-page ad in a local paper defending traditional marriage.

O'Reilly and other pro-life Liberal MPs are finding their traditional support so turned-off by Martin's tactics that, despite outstanding pro-life and pro-family voting records, their pro-life supporters are considering voting against them as a protest vote against the Liberal leadership. However such a strategy is ill-advised says Campaign Life Coalition National President Jim Hughes.

Hughes explained to LifeSiteNews.com that "it would be crazy to replace a solid pro-lifer with a Conservative who would vote the wrong way on life and family issues. All that tells both the Liberal and the Conservative in that riding is that you really don't care about protecting life and family, and so why should the MPs care?" Hughes concluded, "We need the strongest possible pro-lifers in Parliament - we need John O'Reilly."
