LEEDS, June 21, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A UK mother has been successful in suing her doctors after giving birth to a child with genetic abnormalities. She claimed damages, saying that if she had been informed of the child's disability, she would have had him killed before birth. The baby boy was born in 1999 with a genetic abnormality that causes bladder, bowels and genitalia defects. Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, after a judgment from the High Court, will have to pay as-yet undecided damages to assist the woman in the raising of the child.

A spokesman for the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said: "We extend our most sincere sympathies to the lady concerned. This was an extremely complex case and one which was defended by the trust because it raised important clinical questions."
