Burlington, Ontario Catholic High Schools Host 'Anti-Homophobic' Group

BURLINGTON, Ontario, March 30, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Halton Organization for Pride in Education, or HOPE -- formerly Halton-Anti-Homophobic Committee -- has received a $14,000 federal grant to promote tolerance and acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle in four Halton Hills area high schools -- including two Catholic high schools.

MP Paddy Torsney told the Hamilton Spectator that the federal government is providing the money as an initiative of the National Crime Prevention Strategy.
Marcus Logan, HOPE co-chair, told the Spectator, "We offer the students sensitivity training in ongoing sessions once a week and teach them how to develop strategies that reflect their school community, such as poster programs, or plays or what have you."

The program has the support of both Halton-area Catholic high school principles, although which of the seven Catholic high schools in the board is not revealed.

The Halton Catholic District School Board web-site states: "Catholic schools are an integral part of the Church's mission to evangelize youth…We strive to develop in our students…a moral foundation to assist them as they journey through life"
