Abortifacient Morning After Pill Without Prescription a Canadian Election Issue
Launch your concerns now, say pro-life leaders
OTTAWA, May 26, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The official contact information for Canadians wanting to voice concerns over Health Canada's proposal to allow the abortion-causing morning after pill to be available without a doctor's prescription has been released. On Saturday, Canada Gazette I released the information and pro-life leaders have urged all concerned Canadians to demand that the dangerous drugs be curtailed rather than promoted.
Rhonda Wood, spokesman for Campaign Life Coalition told LifeSiteNews.com that the matter is an election issue. The issue was raised on a Campaign Life questionnaire that went out to all candidates in the federal election. Wood said, "Since Health Canada is an arm of the federal government and it has initiated this change in regulations over the election period, the government should expect it to become an election issue."
While pro-life Canadians are concerned about the drugs since they can cause the death of already conceived unborn children, many health care practitioners are concerned about the proposal to give the drug non-prescription status for other reasons. Health concerns for the women and girls who were to use the drugs were the primary motivation behind the US Food and Drug Administration's rejection of over the counter status.
