Voters in 11 States Ban Homosexual "Marriage" Despite Massive Media Bias
Eight of the states also barred civil unions and other facsimiles of marriage
WASHINGTON, November 3, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - State constitutional marriage amendments aimed at protecting marriage from redefinition passed in all eleven states where they were voted on yesterday. In most cases, voters overwhelmingly approved the ban. The amendments passed massive media bias against them.
A homosexual activist group tracked newspapers in the 11 states where the votes were to be held. It found editorials 10-1 against the measure. The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) reported that as of November 1, 83 newspapers in the 11 states published editorials on the measure, with 74 opposed to the amendments and only seven supporting and two neutral. (http://www.glaad.org/publications/resource_doc_detail.php?id=3747 )
Adding Louisiana and Missouri, which also passed constitutional amendments to affirm marriage during the late August primaries, a total of 13 states have passed the measure. States with percentage in favour of the amendments: AR (75%), GA (77%), KY (75%), LA (78%), MI (59%), MS (86%), MO (72%), MT (66%), ND (73%), OH (62%), OK (76%), OR (57%), UT (66%).
Pro-family groups celebrated the victory for the family. The Alliance Defense Fund pointed out that several of the networks (CNN, Fox, and MSNBC) stated that the same-sex "marriage" issue was pivotal in providing the margin of victory for President Bush in Ohio. According to exit polling, 25% of Ohio voters described themselves as evangelical Christians, and those voters went 3-1 for the President.
"Today's vote reveals once again the broad support for protecting marriage among the American people," commented Family Research Council President Tony Perkins. "The people aren't waiting for the politicians to act to reign in activist judges who have no regard for the rule of law."
Concerned Women for America (CWA)'s Robert Knight noted that "In eight of these states, the amendments also bar civil unions and other facsimiles of marriage." Knight concluded, "It's no contest. Americans are saying 'yes' to marriage and 'no' to 'gay' counterfeits."
Mathew D. Staver, President and General Counsel of Liberty Counsel, said: "The election is a clean sweep on marriage and morals. The move to amend the U. S. Constitution to preserve traditional marriage will move full steam ahead."
