Canada Objects to United Nations Terrorism Document Due to Right-to-Life Language
UNITED NATIONS, November 15, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Once again revealing the pro-abortion extremism of Canadian delegates to the UN, Canada's representative at the UN voted against a United Nations resolution on "Human Rights and Terrorism" Thursday. In the explanation of his vote, the Canadian representative noted Canada voiced objection to a clause in the documents which spoke of the "right to life" as the most basic right.
Proposed in the UN Third Committee, the resolution against terrorism contained the clause: "Bearing in mind that the right to life is the basic human right, without which a human being can exercise no other right."
Canada has long trumpeted itself as a defender of human rights but considers that the right to life of unborn children has been overridden by the so-called "right to choose". Canada could therefore not acknowledge any priority of the right to life without compromising its intense position on abortion.
Canada's UN delegate, John von Kaufmann, objected to the clause saying, "of concern is the notion that the right to life is the most basic human right. The Vienna Declaration and Program of Action affirmed that all human rights are universal, indivisible, interdependent and interrelated. No right can take priority over other rights: States have an obligation to promote and protect all human rights and fundamental freedoms."
UN pro-life lobbyist Sam Singson told LifeSiteNews.com that von Kaufmann was a known quantity at the United Nations, especially for his homosexual activism. During the meetings of the UN Human Rights Commission in April which were to discuss placing "sexual orientation" into UN human rights mechanisms, von Kaufmann was seen wearing a rainbow colored "LGTB (Lesbian Gay Transgendered Bisexual) rights are human rights" button.
