Dobson, Keyes to Highlight Massive Pro-Marriage Rally in Washington
WASHINGTON, October 7, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The "Mayday for Marriage" march, on October 15 at the National Mall in Washington, will include a host of Christian leaders who will call on the government to uphold the meaning of marriage. Speakers will comprise representatives from various pro-life and pro-family organizations, including Rabbi Daniel Lapin of Towards Tradition a conservative Jewish lobby, former US Ambassador Alan Keyes and Dr. James Dobson from Focus on the Family.
"Mayday for Marriage" is a consortium of groups and individuals fighting for the traditional meaning of marriage as being between one man and one woman for life. In its unapologetically Christian statement of purpose, the organization declares that the group, "was formed to bring this country together and preserve the definition of marriage as the union between a man and a woman." Mayday for Marriage seeks "to raise awareness of efforts by government officials to change that very definition and in turn, the institution of marriage."
Dr. Dobson, author and former advisor to the Commission on Child and Family Welfare, says, "There has not been a time when the institution of marriage faced such peril or when the forces arrayed against it were more formidable or determined. The preservation of the family, and thus our nation, hangs in the balance."
