MANASSAS, Virginia, October 26, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Cardinal Newman Society published a review Thursday of key university employee records on political contributions, revealing a decided bias in favour of senator John Kerry.

The Society reviewed a Federal Election Commission (FEC) report, which lists donors to either the Bush or Kerry presidential campaigns, revealing that employees at 10 leading Catholic universities gave $196,025 to the Kerry campaign, and only $21,200 to help President George Bush’s campaign for re-election.

The author of the Cardinal Newman society report said, “The overwhelming support for Kerry among Catholic university employees stands in contrast to national polls showing self-identified Catholics more or less evenly divided over Bush and Kerry. In addition,” the report continues, “Kerry’s campaign has been indirectly challenged by the Vatican and Catholic bishops who have cautioned Catholics against voting for candidates who support abortion rights.”

The report reveals that more than half the Kerry contributions came from Georgetown university -- $116,915, including contributions from the Catholic chaplain John Sauer, S.J. A complete list of donors from Georgetown, and key donors from other institutions, can be viewed at: http://www.cardinalnewmansociety.org/

The FEC review focuses on the 10 largest so-called Catholic universities, based on undergraduate enrolment. The list, not including Georgetown, is as follows: Boston College -- Kerry $17,000, Bush nil; DePaul University -- Kerry $7,950, Bush $250; Duquesne University -- Kerry $1,350, Bush $200; Fordham University -- Kerry $19,460, Bush $4,000; Loyola University of Chicago -- Kerry $6,300, Bush $700; Marquette University -- Kerry $1,200, Bush $1,200; St. John’s University of New York -- Kerry $2,750, Bush $750; St. Louis University -- Kerry $7,750, Bush $3,500; and the University of Notre Dame -- Kerry $15,350, Bush $3,600.
