CANBERRA, April 22, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Almost one in five Australian babies are killed by abortion – approximately 91,000 per year – according to the latest federal government findings, released Thursday.

The report is the result of the most comprehensive investigation into abortion carried out by the government. Pro-life National Party Senate leader Ron Boswell, who formally requested the analysis, called the figures “alarming.” Boswell said that, as a result, he would “consider what action might be possible that would have majority support,” after consultation with party members.

The report also revealed that there were also 419 late-term abortions performed in 2002-2003. Late-term abortions are those that occur 20 weeks or later in the pregnancy.
