DUSSELDORF, August 22, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Jim Caviezel, who portrayed Jesus in Mel Gibson's blockbuster "The Passion of the Christ," presented the film to thousands of youth delegates at World Youth Day in Germany.

The screening, which also included prayer and sharing was held at UTL Arena, an outdoor stadium in Dusseldorf, one of the three German cities hosting World Youth Day.  The event was sponsored by Holy Cross Family Ministries (HCFM), Easton, Massachusetts.

Kerri Caviezel, Jim's wife, gave a short testimony and introduced her husband. Jim Caviezel, a committed Catholic, addressed the youth and introduced "The Passion of the Christ," which was shown on a giant video screen.

Joining Jim and Kerri Caviezel in leading the Catholic prayer of the Rosary was Holy Cross Father John Phalen, president of Holy Cross Family Ministries; Holy Cross Father Wilfred Raymond, national director of Family Theater Productions, Hollywood, one of HCFM's member ministries; and actor Clarence Gilyard ("Left Behind," "Top Gun," "Walker, Texas Ranger" and "Matlock").

HCFM's Susan Wallace told LifeSiteNews.com that due to scheduling conflicts and a required time-change, the event did not have as many youth as expected.  Half-way through the event, when only 2000 youth were there, organizers learned that some 5000 additional youth were eagerly awaiting the presentation at the original location.

After they were bused to the new location, Wallace says, "Jim was very gracious and repeated a large chunk of his witness talk when the others arrived."  However, "for the 2000 that were there originally, they had a very personal time with Jim as he went into the crowd signing autographs and having photos taken with the youth.
