Urgent Ontario Action Item – Call MPPs Today Urging Vote Against Same-Sex Marriage Bill
Demand Recorded Vote
TORONTO, February 23, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Ontario Legislature plans to force a vote tomorrow (February 24th) on its just introduced Bill 171, to change the definition of marriage to include same-sex couples. In a move designed to copy-cat the federal legislation, Premier Dalton McGuinty proposes to change 73 provincial laws.
“This pre-emptive move by the Ontario legislature looks suspiciously like an attempt to strengthen the faltering federal legislation,” said Jim Hughes, National President of Campaign Life Coalition (CLC). “At least on the federal level most MPs are being given an opportunity to debate, but in Queen’s Park they plan to proceed without any debate and even without a recorded vote. This is an affront to democracy and every MPP should be told that,” he continued.
“We urge every Ontario resident to contact their MPP today and express their strong objection to this heavy-handed move by the McGuinty’s Liberals,” said Mary Ellen Douglas, Ontario President of Campaign Life Coalition. “We encourage people to tell their MPPs to vote against this Bill and demand a recorded vote.”
Insiders say the opposition Progressive Conservatives have made a secret deal with the Liberal Government to see the bill passed without delay.
Campaign Life Coalition will provide the names and contact information for MPPs on request at 416-204-9749.
