Brazil Judge Permits Homosexual Adoption

SAO PAULO, July 12, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Sao Paulo, Brazil, judge has ruled that same-sex couples can now adopt children.

Judge Julio Cesar Spoladore Domingos, citing the opinion of an official psychology group, the Psychology Council – which declared that homosexuality is not a disease or perversion – has ruled that a homosexual couple can legally adopt a child.

The two men, Vasco Pereira da Gama, and Dorival Pereira de Carvalho, filed the suit in court five months ago. Although homosexuals have been able to adopt in some instances before, the ruling constitutes the first instance where a same-sex couple has been allowed to adopt to become joint parents of a child.
