Justice, Finally Possible For 1994 Abortion Death

CHICAGO, IL, June 10, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – An Illinois court of appeals has ruled that, after a decade long battle, a wrongful death lawsuit being filed against a Chicago abortuary can finally be heard. The lawsuit is being brought by Dianne Adams, the mother of Deanna Bell who died in 1994 at the age of 13 after undergoing a D&E abortion procedure.
Deanna Bell died on the third day of the abortion procedure from cardiac arrest while still in the abortion facility.
The prosecuting attorney, David Myers, intends to prove that this was brought about because Deanna was consistently administered negligently high doses of anesthesia. Further, when Deanna went into cardiac arrest she was accompanied by only one facility staff member, who was not medically trained. Finally, 911 was not called.
Thus far a series of roadblocks have stood in the way of the case. In 1999 a jury ruled in favor of the abortion facility, but that decision was later reversed when it was revealed that a judge had blocked pertinent evidence from being admitted to the proceeding. In 2004 a judge ruled against rehearing the case saying that too much time had elapsed since Deanna’s death.
Under the new ruling the case could be heard before the year is over.
