New Brunswick Latest Casualty in Canadian Judicial Crusade against Marriage
MONCTON, June 24, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – New Brunswick is the latest casualty in the judicial tyranny that seeks to establish same-sex “marriage” as the norm for Canada, as a judge there struck down prohibitions on two people of the same sex becoming “married” Thursday.
Court of the Queen's Bench Judge Judy Clendenning, in an activist judicial decision, altered the legal definition of marriage as a lawful union “between two persons” rather than of a man and woman. Her ruling was in favour of four same-sex couples who challenged the existing law, according to a CBC report.
Clendenning denied several church and pro-family groups intervener status, arguing that they have nothing to fear because her ruling would not force churches to perform the “weddings.”
Premier Bernard Lord said the province would not oppose the court if it ruled to legalize same-sex “marriage.” The province has 10 days to change the law and begin granting “marriage” licenses to same-sex couples.
New Brunswick joins the growing list of provinces and territories in which activist judges have legalized the radical change, leaving only Alberta, P.E.I., Nunavut and the Northwest Territories where the traditional definition of marriage remains.
