Jerusalem Court Orders Gay March to Proceed

JERUSALEM, June 27, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Jerusalem court ruled Sunday that a city council injunction banning the fourth-annual gay “pride” parade there is illegal and ordering the homosexual activist organizers to proceed as planned.
The Jerusalem District court judge added an order that rainbow flags be flown along the streets of the ancient city, and to pay the homosexual organizers, Open House, $13,245 in legal fees.
“The city is not permitted to discriminate against any sector of the public due to the disagreement of any of its officials with the views or sexual orientation of any particular sector,” the judges ruling claimed, according to a Reuters report.
Jerusalem city council decided last week that “it is not right to allow the march or other planned activities to take place in the streets of Jerusalem, fearing that it will create an uproar, offend a wide sector of city residents and out of fear of public disturbances,” according to a letter sent by City Hall director general Eitan Meir to organizers.
The march is scheduled to go ahead June 30.
