OTTAWA, November 23, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Canadian homosexual activist member of parliament, Scott Brison, has been forced to apologize to Conservative Party leader Stephen Harper and the National Citizens Coalition. Brison admitted he lied in a release November 4 when he charged Harper with breaking federal lobbying laws while he was president of the NCC.

Brison, Public Works Minister for the Liberal Party, read a letter of apology in the House of Commons Monday, saying that he lied about the NCC being charged under the Elections Act six times.

“We accept his apology and hope that this makes all politicians more aware that false and baseless accusations have no place in the politics of Canada,” Harper said following Brison’s admission of guilt. Brison made the apology after the NCC threatened to sue for the slur.

Meanwhile, a Nova Scotia woman and 30-year Liberal Party campaign volunteer said that Brison told her to “kiss my ass” at a chance meeting in a restaurant. Sandra McGrath said Brison approached her to say hello, when she told him her feelings about not being re-appointed to the Human Resources Development Canada Board of Referees after two terms. McGrath told Brison she would not help him in his next election campaign.

“He got very upset,” McGrath said. “He looked at me and said, ‘Well I’ve got something to tell you. I’m going to be the MP for a very, very long time, and you can kiss my ass.’ “We were shocked and dumbfounded,” she said. Her husband, a 67-year-old retired lawyer, was also present. “This is a cabinet minister and there’s supposed to be ethics in government. If he can’t take some heat from the people of Canada, he shouldn’t be in cabinet.”

“I didn’t want to go public with this because I’m too much of a good Liberal, but what I see in Ottawa going on right now with Liberals, I just can’t support them federally until they clean up their act,” she added. McGrath said that when Prime Minister Paul Martin didn’t respond to her letter asking for an apology, she went to her local Tory candidate Bob Mullan who called the Ottawa Sun.

Mullan’s campaign communications director David Hovell said he wasn’t surprised by the story. “I know the guy, when he gets rattled and worked up, he loses his better judgment,” Hovell said. “We try to say to people, ‘Is this really what you want for your member of Parliament?”

Brison, the first openly gay federal minister, announced to the Globe and Mail last month that Maxime St. Pierre, his same-sex partner of six months, has recently proposed.

Brison was once a Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative MP. As a member of the Progressive Conservative party he announced his desire to run for the leadership of the party. He defected to the Liberal Party in 2003 after the Progressive Conservatives and the Canadian Alliance merged to form the Conservative Party of Canada. Brison has been consistent in his support for same-sex marriage, abortion and euthanasia.
