WINDSOR, Nova Scotia, October 11, 2005, (LifeSiteNews.com) - Scott Brison, Liberal Member of Parliament and Canada’s Public Works Minister, has announced that he is getting ‘married’.  Brison, the first openly gay federal minister, announced to the Globe and Mail that Maxime St. Pierre, his same-sex partner of six months, has recently proposed.

Commenting on the media’s interest in his personal life Brison said, “I'm looking forward to the day when the idea of... a gay or lesbian politician getting married is not a story at all.''

Brison was once a Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative MP. As a member of the Progressive Conservative party he announced his desire to run for the leadership of the party. He defected to the Liberal Party in 2003 after the Progressive Conservatives and the Canadian Alliance merged to form the Conservative Party of Canada. Brison has been consistent in his support for same-sex marriage, abortion and euthanasia.
