Tiller may Face Grand Jury in Death of Christin Gilbert
by Hilary White
WICHITA, April 6, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In November 2005, notorious late-term abortionist George Tiller of Wichita, Kansas was cleared by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts of responsibility for the death of Christin A. Gilbert, who died “as a result of complication of a therapeutic abortion,” after Tiller aborted her 28 week old child.
Christin was a nineteen year-old girl who was rushed to hospital after becoming “unresponsive” at Tiller’s Women's Health Care Services abortion facility. It is most likely that she died of sepsis.
Christin, who had Down’s syndrome, had become pregnant after a sexual assault and had sought an abortion with her family’s help at Tiller’s private facility.
Pro-life advocates have said the decision of the Kansas board was biased. According to Operation Rescue president Troy Newman, the wife of the board president works for Gov. Kathleen Sebelius -- who in turn has received campaign contributions from Tiller.
Newman is convinced only a grand jury will be unbiased enough to examine the truth of Christin’s death.
"We hope to see... those who've committed crimes to be brought to justice and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," he said.
2,520 valid signatures are required for a petition to the district court to convene a grand jury.
