Petition Drive Launched to Stop Homosexual Assault Against Jerusalem
WASHINGTON, August 2, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - At a time when bombs are exploding in Israel and the nation is at war, the last thing it needs is an assault on its very heart and soul, but that is about to happen, says Faith and Action, a Christian mission to government officials in Washington, DC.
This Saturday, August 6, Jerusalem will become the site of the largest gathering of homosexual activists ever in that part of the world.
Faith and Action has launched an Internet petition drive to support Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski's opposition to the homosexual extravaganza slated to take place in the Holy City this Saturday, August 6 - Saturday, August 12.
According to Faith and Action conducting such a "sacrilegious" activity on the Sabbath is a double-offense to God-fearing people everywhere.
Organizers of the so-called "WorldPride" event said they specifically targeted Jerusalem because of its religious significance.
"The WorldPride agenda includes pornographic movie festivals, the recruitment of Israeli young people to the gay lifestyle and other immoral demonstrations offensive to Jews, Christians and even Muslims," said Rev. Rob Schenck, president of the conservative National Clergy Council.
"The vast majority of Israeli citizens oppose WorldPride. Jews are restricted from visiting the Temple Mount in Jerusalem because it might inflame Arab Muslims, but homosexual activists are allowed to do whatever they want no matter who they offend...If anything is going to inflame anyone, it's this kind of public decadence," said Rev. Schenck.
Mayor Lupolianski was ordered by liberal members of Israel's Supreme Court to grant event permits to the WorldPride organizers, even though a large majority of Jerusalem citizens strongly oppose it. Orthodox Jewish Rabbi and friend to Faith and Action Yehuda Levin of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis, has been in Jerusalem for several months leading a one-man campaign to cancel the event. He was partially successful when officials disallowed a parade through the city scheduled for August 10.
Faith and Action hopes to assemble thousands of petitions supporting Mayor Lupolianski and calling on Israeli officials to cancel all WorldPride events and "Keep the Holy Land Holy." The deadline for the petition drive is this Friday, August 4.
Christians that care about Israel, the Jewish people, and the Holy City of Jerusalem are asked to sign the petition on-line and forward it to family, friends and fellow church members. Petitions received by Friday's deadline will be hand-delivered to the Israeli ambassador at the Israeli embassy in Washington just before sundown when the Sabbath begins.
