California Parents Ask Gov. Schwarzenegger to Veto Homosexual Indoctrination School Bill
By Peter J. Smith
SACRAMENTO, California, August 22, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – California parents and pro-family groups are imploring Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to veto a bill designed to indoctrinate California students to accept homosexual behavior and suppress the traditional understanding of family and marriage in public schools.
On Monday, the Democrat-controlled State Assembly passed SB 1437, the first in a set of four bills okaying homosexual propaganda indoctrinating schoolchildren and college students to accept transsexuality, transvestitism, bisexuality, and homosexuality, including homosexual "marriage." The bill intends to revise K-12 and college public education textbooks, instructional materials, and school-sponsored activities to mention these sexual behaviors only in a positive light.
The Assembly floor voted 46-31 to adopt the legislation, which will now proceed to the California Senate for a concurrence vote. Republicans offered a last-ditch amendment to SB 1437 requiring schools to receive parental permission before teaching the sexual curriculum to children; however the Assembly rejected the measure 26-48.
Assembly Speaker, Democrat Fabian Nunez, revealed in his opening remarks that SB 1437 was crafted to suppress traditional perspectives on marriage and family in the state school system.
"The way that you correct a wrong is by outlawing. 'Cause if you don't outlaw it, then people's biases tend to take over and dominate the perspective and the point of view," Nunez said of his sexual reeducation program.
"If somebody wants to teach kids in kindergarten that Jack and Jill ran up a hill, this bill doesn't prohibit that. But it does say that if somebody wants to say that if Jill and Jill ran up the hill and somehow that's wrong -- then this bill says that that is not acceptable," warned Nunez.
However Republican Dennis Mountjoy of Monrovia condemned the bill saying, “The problem with public education is they’re turning into institutions of social experimentation and it is dangerous to our young people.”
“If you can get them to read, write and get them to do some arithmetic, then you’ve been successful. But you don’t care about the basics; you want to socially engineer our children,” accused Mountjoy.
“This bill is a basically a predatory bill that preys upon the innocence of children,” decried Republican Assemblyman Jay La Suer, who called SB1437 “nothing more than a camel’s nose of the homosexual agenda going into our schools.”
Pro-family groups now have turned their eyes to Schwarzenegger, who has used his veto power before to terminate other bills that have aggressively pushed for same-sex “marriage” and homosexual propaganda in California schools.
"We call upon Governor Schwarzenegger to keep his promise to veto SB 1437, which micromanages public schools by forcing them to promote a gaggle of sexual lifestyles that disturb parents and confuse kids," said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, whose organization has steadfastly fought the anti-family legislation throughout the year.
"If Schwarzenegger abandons children by signing any of these school indoctrination bills, pro-family voters will abandon him," warned Thomasson gravely.
Schwarzenegger also has until August 26 to veto or sign another piece of anti-family legislation, SB 1441. This bill demands Christian and other faith based colleges and childcare centers to promote homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality if they receive state funds directly or indirectly.
