UNITED STATES, March 8, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – More than half of all Americans think abortion is immoral most of the time, and those under 50 are more likely to believe abortion is wrong than older Americans, according to a new survey by a top-ranked polling firm.

Rasmussen Reports conducted the survey on the first two days of March, questioning 1000 adults on their beliefs about the morality of abortion and their opinion on abortion access. The report found that 55 percent of Americans believe abortion is morally wrong most of the time. Only 32 percent disagreed.

Almost half, 47%, think it is too easy for a woman to get an abortion in the US. 21% say it is too hard, and 21% say access is fine the way it is.

Among people who believe abortion is morally wrong most of the time, 74% think it is too easy for a woman to get an abortion.

Sixty-one percent of Americans (three out of five) know someone who has had an abortion.

The report also said that only half of all Americans have followed the recent developments in South Dakota, where Governor Mike Rounds has signed into law a bill banning almost all abortions in the state, excepting cases where the mother’s life is in danger. Just 21% said they were following the story attentively.
