Sperm Donor Siblings, Mothers, Connect Online

ATLANTA, March 10, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – An online sperm donor registry connects half siblings who share the same donor father, and donors with their children.
As reported by CNN’s Anderson Cooper Blog 360°, the mothers artificially inseminated by one man who has fathered as many as 20 children have connected online. CNN reporter Dan Simon spoke to several of the mothers who connected via DonorSiblingRegistry.com. “They have become fast friends, but perhaps more important, their kids have discovered they have brothers and sisters. To see the kids’ photographs is striking, because of their resemblance to one another,” he added.
Donor Sibling Registry boasts that it has grown to 7,290 members, and has facilitated matches between over 1,560 half-siblings or donors and their offspring. “Most of these matches are listed in the Registry, others kept private, some not even known to us,” their web site explains.
“The focus of the Donor Sibling Registry is to assist individuals conceived as a result of sperm, egg or embryo donation who are seeking to make mutually desired contact with others with whom they share genetic ties,” they add.
Simon asks rhetorically, “So are they all really members of the same family? Are these kids actually brothers and sisters in any meaningful sense?”
