Abortion Pill RU-486 to Be Used As Regular Birth Control Pill
By Gudrun Schultz
EDINBURGH, United Kingdom, March 28, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) –Pharmaceutical companies and the medical community have suddenly acknowledged a link between the birth control pill and breast cancer.
Numerous studies showing a clear link between the use of birth control and the development of breast cancer have been largely ignored or denied in the past by drug companies and the medical community.
Now, an alternative drug that would supposedly reduce the risk of breast cancer is being promoted. Several groups of scientists and pharmaceutical companies are working to produce a contracepting pill that would not trigger cancer growth, reported the Telegraph today.
The drug under study is a hormone-inhibitor, better known as the dangerous and controversial drug used to induce abortions, RU-486.
RU-486 has been linked to multiple deaths of women in Europe and the United States. The recent deaths of two more women in the US led the Food and Drug Administration to issue a Public Health Advisory, alerting consumers to the potential danger of the drug.
The abortifacient drug causes severe bleeding, in some cases leading to haemorrhage. Over 600 reports of dangerous complications related to the drug’s use have been reported in the US alone since it was approved. Despite the volume of reports, the FDA has refused to pull the drug from the market.
Scientists are praising RU-486 as the next new contraceptive that will lower the risk of breast cancer for women by stopping their menstrual cycle altogether.
“We are looking at an entirely new type of pill that abolishes periods. It will have enormous health benefits,” said Prof David Baird, emeritus professor of reproductive endocrinology at the Edinburgh University, who has led early human trials of the drug.
Prof Baird’s team has tested the drug on women in Nigeria, South Africa and Hong Kong.
