Ottawa, May 3, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Rose Dinner and Youth Conference events associated with the annual May 10 -12 National March For Life in Ottawa have for the first time both been sold out. What makes it more remarkable is that this has occurred over a week before the events are to take place.

Jim Hughes, president of Campaign Life Coalition, the national pro-life organization that organizes the March For Life events, reports 900 tickets have been sold for the Rose Dinner and there is a growing waiting list. Hughes notes that had the Congress Centre staff not gone on strike forcing a change of venue, there would likely have been a sell-out of all 1200 places available at the larger Congress Centre facility.

Yoli Singson, main organizer of the youth conference, reports all 500 places for that event have also been sold out. In addition to the roster of scheduled speakers, it is expected that at least several Members of Parliament will drop in to greet the youth. Singson reports that the awesome Gethsemane Band will be back again this year with their rousing and inspiring music.

Organizers emphasize that although the dinner and youth conference are sold out, there is still a need for a large number of Canadians to be present at the central event of the three days activities – the march itself and the preliminary activities on the hill starting at 12 noon Thursday May 11.

Although the number of youth participating has been ramping up in recent years Jim Hughes told LifeSiteNews he is concerned about the very poor support for the march from Ottawa region Catholic schools. Organizers have for years expected students from those schools would be most out in force for this important national event in their own city.

Instead, says Hughes, the vast majority of the youth that have been coming to the event travel a long distance from other communities in Ontario, Quebec and even from other provinces. Hughes and conference organizers hope that the local problem will soon be resolved so that Ottawa area students can also benefit from the inspiring March for Life events and bolster the crucial message sent by the march to the Prime Minister and Members of Parliament.
