Poster-Boy Priest of Rochester Diocese is Known Dissident
By John-Henry Westen
ROCHESTER, May 8, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Diogenes, the ever-watchful anonymous author of Catholic World Report's back-page and the main blogger of Catholic World News has pointed out the unbelievable fact that the priest used by the Rochester diocese in magazines to promote the priesthood is a known dissident. Fr. Joe Marcoux is prominently featured in ads by the diocese intended to promote the priesthood.
The ad pictures Fr. Marcoux smiling, with the subtext "Priesthood, I love my life."
The only problem is that Fr. Marcoux was the main signatory and in fact one of the promoters of a letter slamming the Vatican and the U.S. bishops for using "vile and toxic language" in addressing homosexuality.
The diocese cannot claim ignorance of Marcoux's actions since he led the charge to write the controversial letter to the US Bishops Conference, and the Congregation of the Doctrine of Faith then and sent a copy to his bishop, Rochester Bishop Matthew Clark. Bishop Clark has long been known to be a sympathizer of homosexual clergy.
"As Catholic pastors, we have become increasingly disturbed by the tone and, in some cases, content of documents and statements from the Vatican, bishops' conferences and individual bishops on issues categorized under the heading of "homosexual" or 'gay/lesbian'," began the 2004 letter. "We find particularly troubling the increase in the use of violent and abusive language . . . divisive and exclusionary statements . . . we deplore it as ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ and ask that it stop immediately," said the letter.
The letter came mainly in reaction to the document "Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions Between Homosexual Persons" which was prepared by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith headed at the time by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger - now Pope Benedict XVI.
