TORONTO, November 8, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Campaign Life Coalition, the political arm of the pro-life movement in Canada has commented on the US midterm election results saying, "As the Democrats made inroads in the mid-term elections in the US, the progress which was being made to protect innocent human beings takes a hard blow."

"I imagine this set-back is similar to what the abolitionists suffered with changes in government in their time until their ultimate victory against slavery," said Jim Hughes, National President of Campaign Life Coalition (CLC). "Even though the U.S. system of government is different than ours, we can expect that the events in the U.S. will embolden the pro-abortion politicians in Canada. This challenges us to find, encourage and support candidates who have the moral fortitude to run for elected office in provincial elections and the upcoming federal election. Canada needs men and women who are prepared to stand up and not hang their morality on the tree outside the legislatures," he said.

The abortion ban in South Dakota has been overturned. Planned Parenthood spokesperson Sarah Stoesz claimed, "It is a very important victory for people who are open-minded and progressive." "In reality, it is not open-minded to accept the fact that innocent lives are being destroyed in their mothers wombs?" countered Mary Ellen Douglas, national organizer of CLC.

"Campaign Life Coalition will remain diligent in its role of obtaining a law to protect all human life from conception (fertilization) until natural death. CLC will continue to seek out and support pro-life and family politicians until victory is obtained," concluded the release.
