Polygamists Pawns in the Agenda to Dismantle the Family
By Peter J. Smith
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (LifeSiteNews.com) - The rising tide of polygamist groups in America have adopted the tactics of homosexual activists to lobby for legal recognition of their relationships, however, these groups are playing an important role in the long-standing agenda to dismantle the traditional family.
In a recent Washington Post story, "Valerie", a mother of eight "with a smile as bright as Utah's sky", who "has insisted that she's just like you and me" illustrates that polygamists have discovered the tactics used by homosexual activists to further acceptance of their relationships in society. Namely, that gushing positive interviews in major media outlets, glossy magazines, and organized demonstrations, can afford them just as great an emotional tool in changing national opinion about bigamy.
"I'm a soccer mom. My kids are in music lessons. They go to public school. I'm not under anyone's control," says Valerie, who according to the Post shares a husband with two other wives on a rotation basis, making kitchen remodeling "no small feat", and bringing the household's children thus far to 21.
However, while Valerie and 40,000 men, women and children in polygamous communities (according to the Post's estimation) lobby to decriminalize bigamy by legitimating polygamy in the eyes of American sentiment, they become an ally of anti-family activists, who have worked for nearly 30 years to make marriage a legal non-entity. The 1972 Gay Rights Platform of the National Coalition of Gay Organizations advocated the "Repeal of all legislative provisions that restrict the sex or number of persons entering into a marriage unit; and the extension of legal benefits to all persons who cohabit regardless of sex or numbers." A summary of the recent homosexual manifesto "Beyond Same Sex Marriage" reiterates these principles for "committed, loving households in which there is more than one conjugal partner."
Stanley Kurtz of the National Review stated, "The sponsors of Beyond Same-Sex Marriage hope to dissolve marriage, not through formal abolition, but by gradually extending the hitherto unique notion of marriage to every conceivable family type." He added such types include "groups of senior citizens living together, extended immigrant households, single parent households, 'queer couples who decide to jointly create and raise a child with another queer person or couple in two households,' unmarried domestic partners, polygamous/polyamorous households, and many other diverse family forms."
Defenders of traditional marriage point out that dissenting Justice Anthony Scalia predicted the Supreme Court's 2003 decision in Lawrence v. Texas to decriminalize sodomy laws on the basis that "liberty gives substantial protection to adult persons in deciding how to conduct their private lives in matters pertaining to sex" opened up the road to marriage's destruction.
In his dissent, Justice Scalia warned, "State laws against bigamy, same-sex marriage, adult incest, prostitution, masturbation, adultery, fornication, bestiality, and obscenity are likewise sustainable only in light of Bowers' validation of laws based on moral choices."
