“What’s Past is Prologue”: Report Shows “Disturbing Ties” between Hillary Clinton and Abortion Industry
By Peter J. Smith
WASHINGTON, D.C., November 28, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – “What’s past is prologue” is an admonition from Shakespeare’s The Tempest, however that is the theme of a report from the government watch-dog group Judicial Watch, which warns that America faces a return of aggressive pro-abortion policy if former first lady turned senator Hillary Clinton wins the presidency in 2008.
In a special report entitled: New Clinton White House Records Raise Disturbing Questions about Hillary Clinton and Abortion, Judicial Watch reveals that Hillary was ever present behind the scenes of Clinton’s abortion policy, and indicates that a Hillary Clinton presidency would be deeply tied to advancing a pro-abortion agenda.
“Judicial Watch’s research of Clinton Archives has turned-up additional, never-before-seen records detailing Team Clintons’ strong support – both politically and ideologically – for attacking the pro-life movement and aggressively expanding the ‘culture of death,’ especially with public funding” states the report in its introduction.
By using the Freedom of Information Act, Judicial Watch released a report based on the files of the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas that highlights several documents illuminating the deep relationship between the abortion lobbies and the Clintons, especially Hillary, who proves to be a key player in the Administration’s radical abortion policies.
In one memo from the Clinton archives, Domestic Policy Council staffer Bill Galston suggested to President Bill Clinton that he needed to “lower the public profile” of the administration’s radical pro-abortion policies, while fulfilling the agenda of abortion supporters. Galston mentioned a number of pro-abortion topics and strategies, such as the Hyde Amendment, which barred the use of federal Medicaid funds for abortion, and the “Freedom of Choice Act”, and discussed recommendations of the abortion “working group” which included “the First Lady’s office.”
However, at the “decision” section of the Galston memo, Clinton wrote a hand-written note saying, “What does Hillary think?” indicating clearly that Hillary was the driving force of the White House’s abortion policy.
Another memorandum entitled "SUBJECT: AID Family Planning Grants/Mexico City Policy," from White House staffer Christine A. Varney to President Bill Clinton, shows “Mrs. Clinton” as one of four recipients of a “blind carbon copy.” The report also shows that within five days of Clinton overturning the Mexico City Policy, major efforts were made to coordinate USAID and the Clinton Security Council to further the pro-abortion agenda of the United Nations Population Fund.
However, Judicial Watch references Shakespeare’s phrase “what’s past is prologue” to indicate that the presidency will empower Hillary to forward an agenda she aggressively pursued behind the scenes of her husband’s presidency, if or when she runs in 2008.
“This special report provides important behind-the-scenes details regarding the creation and execution of the Clinton administration’s radical pro-abortion agenda,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “These new documents show that the Clinton White House treated abortion with corrupt cynicism and that Hillary Clinton was at the center of decision-making on the issue.”
