Planned Parenthood Organizes Protests in Favour of Gruesome Partial Birth Abortion Procedure
Complains this is first time “Court has ever upheld a restriction on abortion without a health exception”
By Peter J. Smith
NEW YORK, April 25, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Planned Parenthood called for a day of nationwide rallies and demonstrations in protest of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to uphold the federal abortion ban on the gruesome partial-birth abortion procedure.
In a press release, Planned Parenthood said it was summoning all pro-abortion advocates to “express outrage” today on the third anniversary of the abortion rally, the 2004 March for Women’s Lives.
"Last Wednesday’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the federal abortion ban in its entirety represents a serious setback for women’s health and safety, and is truly ‘an alarming decision,’ as Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote in her dissent," said Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) President Cecile Richards.
Richards complained that the “decision ... turns back the clock on 30 years of Supreme Court precedent.”
“This is the first time that the Supreme Court has ever upheld a restriction on abortion without a health exception,” she said, adding that “the American people won’t stand for it [abortion restrictions].”
However Planned Parenthood has used the aegis of the Supreme Court to stymie the democratic expression of a majority of the American people, who for years have supported implementing significant restrictions on abortion. There is especially strong public opinion against very late term partial-birth abortion which is overwhelmingly seen as a barbaric infanticide type of abortion.
A March 2006 FoxNews poll showed Americans favored banning partial-birth abortion 61% to 27%. A Gallup Poll in January 2003 showed Americans wanted the practice prohibited except in life threatening cases 70% to 25%. Statistics against the procedure have tended to rise as more Americans have become educated as to what the procedure actually entails and have seen explicit drawings of the procedure.
