Non-Canadian Abortion Advocate Recruited to Face Young Pro-Life Leader
By Elizabeth O'Brien
CALGARY, August 14, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - After avoiding public face-offs with pro-lifers for many years, abortion advocates are stepping up to the platform. Responding to the Canadian Centre for Bioethical Reform (CCBR) abortion truck campaign, a pro-abortion top-gun has been brought in all the way from the States to be interviewed with young pro-life leader Stephanie Gray on the issue of abortion.
Abortion advocates have carefully avoided such encounters in the past, but a recent media frenzy over the giant billboards depicting aborted fetuses have caused a long-time abortion warrior to accept a public debate.
Vicki Saporta, the executive director for the Washington-based National Abortion Federation (NAF), has agreed to discuss the issue with CCBR Executive Director Stephanie Gray tonight on CKNW 980 Radio program, "Nightline BC." Hosted by Michael Smyth, it will take place tonight from 7:05 to 7:30pm PST. Calls will also be received (To listen live tonight go to the CKNW website and hit "Listen Live": http://www.cknw.com/shows/show_nightlineBC.cfm).
Under Saporta's direction for over ten years, NAF has spearheaded the effort to make more widespread the clinical abortion pill RU-486 in the United States and helped shape the abortion industry into its present form today in North America. She has also been interviewed frequently on major television programs, radio shows and newspapers across the States.
But Stephanie Gray is not lightly to be reckoned with, having defended the cause of life for many years. She has no major secret to her success in spreading the pro-life message other than proclaiming the truth with calm, unshakable conviction. As Campaign Life Coalition B.C. President John Hof told LifeSiteNews.com, "She is by far and away the best advocate for a pro-life position that the country has today. I would put her up against anyone."
He continued, "She's a phenomenal person. She has all the philosophical, logical, common sense arguments to support her position. In a debate, she's the best."
LifeSiteNews.com talked to Stephanie Gray this morning as she rode in the security car following the abortion billboard truck in Calgary. Gray only found out yesterday who her interview companion would be tonight, she told LifeSiteNews.com. When she was contacted and told that it would be an NAF representative, they asked, "Is that okay with you?"
She replied, "That's great."
Commenting on the situation, Executive Director of National Campus Life Network Theresa Matters told LifeSiteNews.com, "I'm not surprised how successful Stephanie has been, especially given the rise of pro-life activism on university campuses. It's been a great experience watching our generation step up to the plate and take on this issue."
She continued, "We need to combine the energy of the young people with the wisdom of those who have been fighting the pro-life battle for many years. The benefit we have is that more and more young people are getting inspired by the pro-life movement and are recognizing the lies in the pro-abortion rhetoric."
