Owner of Abortion Facility Arrested for Employing Unlicensed Staff

Investigation into death of baby girl born alive at second center is ongoing

By Gudrun Schultz

Belkis Gonzalez MIRAMAR, Florida, February 13, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A notorious abortion-facility operator under investigation for the death of a baby girl born alive at the center was arrested Feb. 2 on charges of running a center with unlicensed employees, the Miami Herald reported last week.

Belkis Gonzalez, along with her business partner Siomara Senises, was charged with two felony counts of providing illegal abortions at A Gyn abortion center in Miramar, according to a press release from pro-life Operation Rescue. Details of Senises’ arrest are unknown. The abortion facility was closed by police in 2004 after a failed abortion of twins revealed that one doctor working at the center did not have a medical license.

Commenting on Gonzalez’ arrest, Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said, "This arrest underscores the rampant dangers and illegalities that are uncovered on a regular basis in the so-called 'safe and legal' abortion industry. You can't practice vice virtuously. If you kill babies, you'll be willing to do anything else besides."

Priests for Life is the nation's largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia.

Gonzalez and Senises were involved in a police investigation earlier this year when reports indicated a baby had been born alive and then killed at an abortion facility in Hialeah, Florida, operated by the pair.

Miami-Dad County police found the badly decomposed body of a baby girl at the facility, after a woman informed police that a child had been killed by “a doctor” after being born alive during a late-term abortion. A search warrant reported that there was “probable cause” for a second degree murder investigation.

After 18-year old Sycloria Williams gave birth to a living baby girl in the facility’s recovery room, staff began “screaming that the baby was alive,” the warrant stated.
“Ms. Belkis Gonzalez cut the umbilical cord, threw it into a red bag with black printing. Ms. Gonzalez then swept the baby, with her hands, into the same red bag along with the gauze used during the procedure.”

Investigation iinto the circumstances of the child’s death is still underway.
