“Roe v. Wade Week” at Yale Features Do It Yourself Abortions
All you need is papaya and some cotton for this “simple procedure”
By Peter J. Smith
NEW HAVEN, Connecticut, January 25, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Celebrations for “Roe v. Wade Week” at Yale University on Thursday featured a workshop sponsored by pro-abortion clubs teaching students about the “simple procedure” of abortion; a procedure made complicated and “emotionally traumatic” by “media attention.”
The Yale Daily News reports that The Yale Medical Students for Choice invited medical students and other Yale undergraduates to a demonstration on abortion via manual vacuum aspiration - a surgical abortion method using a syringe to remove an aborted or miscarried baby or miscarriage from a woman’s womb - using papaya as a model uterus.
Merritt Evans MED ’09, a coordinator for the abortion workshop, told the Yale Daily News that she wanted to show students that abortion is “a simple procedure, but the media attention around it … makes this an emotionally traumatic and a complicated thing.”
“It’s just to be like, ‘Here is what actually happens, here is what the medical procedure is like, this is what an aborted yolk sac looks like.’ It looks like a piece of cotton,” said Evans, who claimed the abortion procedure was inconsistently taught in medical school.
While teaching abortion techniques is not consistently taught to all of Yale’s undergraduates, the university’s medical school already requires its Ob/gyn residents to undergo training in abortion/miscarriage procedures in a program entitled Family Planning/Ambulatory Surgery, a required residency program established by Planned Parenthood’s Connecticut branch.
The demonstration is part of a series of events strung throughout the week by Yale’s Reproductive Rights Action League for the 34th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. A small gathering Monday night began the abortion festivities at Yale’s Women’s Center to screen the film, “The Education of Shelby Knox”, which the Yale Daily News described as “a story of a teenage girl who campaigns for comprehensive sex education in her conservative Texas town.”
Dawn Eden, author of Thrill of the Chaste, and an editor of a New York city daily is offering a $25 Amazon gift certificate to the commenter who composes the best rewrite of one of the school's anthems, which are “horribly outdated in light of the school's new mission,” she writes on her blog, the Dawn Patrol.
“Deadline is midnight tonight. Remember, do it for God, for country, for Yale, and for all those liberal arts students at one of the country's finest Ivy League universities who are about to learn how to suction a live baby out of the womb.”
Apparently, the Yale Daily News website crashed after the DrudgeReport linked to their story. It is now back up.
