No Evidence of Wrongdoing at Abortion Clinic Targeted by Kline for Concealing Child Rape: Kansas Attorney General
Charges Against Tiller to Follow Later in the Week
By John Jalsevac
TOPEKA, Kansas, June 27, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Attorney General Paul Morrison revealed Tuesday that after a lengthy investigation he has found no evidence of criminal conduct at a Kansas Planned Parenthood accused of failing to report child rape to police authorities.
“Our investigation is now complete,” attorney general Morrison wrote to Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri (PPKM), “and we have found no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing by your client.”
“As a result, we will not be filing any charges against your client.”
The Planned Parenthood Clinic in Overland Park had been the subject of an investigation by former attorney general Phill Kline, who subpoenaed their patient records to determine whether the clinic was covering up child rape. The clinic only notified the public health department and failed to inform the authorities, as required by law, of the sexual abuse. Kline obtained redacted records omitting patient names by order of the Kansas Supreme Court, but ran out of time to pursue an investigation, focusing instead on filing 30 charges against notorious abortionist George Tiller.
Current attorney general Paul Morrison, however, has come under criticism after evidence was uncovered recently that the attorney general has financial ties with the abortion industry. The investigations by Morrison into allegations against the Planned Parenthood clinic, and the infamous abortionist George Tiller have been criticized by some as nothing more than a sham.
Earlier this month, renowned Harvard-educated psychiatrist Dr. Paul McHugh, who had been commissioned by former attorney general Phil Kline to investigate the George Tiller case, broke his silence about the case. McHugh claimed that Morrison’s office had failed to contact him to ask him his opinion about the case, despite the fact that he was considered to be one of the primary witnesses against Tiller.
In a video-taped statement Dr. McHugh, who had gone through the case-records of the women who had obtained late-term abortions at Tiller’s clinic, was asked, “Did you see any one file that justified a late-term abortion by demonstrating that she would suffer substantial and irreversible harm?” McHugh responded, “I saw no file that justified abortion on that basis.”
Shortly after the release of this video-tape, McHugh received a letter from the attorney general, threatening the psychiatrist with legal action if he did not “cease and desist” from speaking about the case.
Morrison plans to announce later this week what charges he will file against Tiller.
Peter Brownlie, the chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood welcomed Morrison’s recent decision as reflecting the competence and professionalism of the Planned Parenthood organization, and accused former attorney general Kline of pursuing Tiller “nothing more and nothing less than a fishing expedition conducted for a political agenda.”
Operation Rescue President Troy Newman, however, criticized Morrison’s statement to PPKM with strong words. "We believe that Morrison has serious credibility issues, especially after the Associated Press reported just last Saturday on his political connections to abortion money," said Newman. "There have been serious concerns that Morrison's abortion investigations have been little more than a sham. This announcement does nothing but heighten those concerns."
