Black Pro-life Congress to hold 3rd Annual Abortion Rally at NAACP Fundraising Dinner
Pro-abortion former US President Bill Clinton at speak at Detroit event
By Gudrun Schultz
DETROIT, Michigan, March 29, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The National Black Pro-life Congress will hold an abortion demonstration again this year during the annual fundraising dinner of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
The Congress has staged rallies during the past two Freedom Fund dinners to protest the disproportionately high numbers of abortions performed on women from the Black community. Pastor Levon Yuille, national director of the NBPLC, will lead the demonstration, supported by participants from both Protestant and Catholic churches and representatives from the wider Detroit community.
Civil rights leader Dr. Alveda King will attend this year’s rally--Dr. King, niece of Martin Luther King, Jr., is a prominent pro-life speaker and advocate.
The NAACP fundraiser, held in the Cobo Convention Hall, draws an estimated 10,000 participants. Former US President Bill Clinton is scheduled to speak at this year’s event, which will be held April 29. Known as the “abortion President” for having twice vetoed bills that would have outlawed the killing of fully-formed babies during birth, Mr. Clinton’s administration declared abortion a “fundamental right of all women.”
“Abortion has become the number one killer of black people in this country -- killing more African Americans than accidents, heart disease, stroke, crimes, HIV/AIDS and all other deaths…COMBINED!” wrote Day Gardner, President of the National Black Pro-Life Union, in a special LifeSiteNews.com report during Black History Month, February 2007.
“What bothers me is we are very quick as a people to recognize racism everywhere else except the one place that truly affects all of us. Most blacks will agree that racism is sill very much alive -- yet say nothing when abortion facilities are placed purposefully in minority and poor communities. This is no accident! More than 37 percent of all abortions are performed on black women. Last year alone, more than 400,000 black babies were killed by abortion.”
“We must realize that abortion is a multi-million dollar a year business that makes most of its money by killing our children. Abortion providers need us to make their blood money. If we as black people say no to abortion -- the industry will cease to exist. We are the underground railroad of our time and it's up to us to make abortion a thing of our historical past. If we stand united against this horrific practice ... we shall overcome this, too.”
