LifeSiteNews.com Notes for Today – May 8, 2007

What’s possibly really behind “global warming”, gay agendas

Well, the wraps seem to be now rapidly coming off the real reasons behind all the "global warming", "climate change" hysteria. As we suspected from the beginning, being quite familiar with most of the characters and organizations pushing this upon the world, de-population and world government agendas are big factors behind it.

Quite frankly, the people forcing these agendas are dangerous totalitarians who make it plain they care not a whit for human life, human freedom or national sovereignty. This is serious stuff, although not for the reasons they give.

That's not to say we are not necessarily some day in for significant, if not huge changes in climate, as naturally occur throughout the earth's history. Remember the extra cold weather that followed for many months after the giant Philippines Mount Pinatubo eruption in 1991?

Where I am sitting now was covered by over a mile of ice not all that long ago as the earth’s history goes. However, man's role in now causing such weather changes, cold or hot, we suggest, is likely negligible and presented as a self-serving stretch of human ego by the alarmists.

Our role is to keep you informed and there is plenty of information on LifeSiteNews to back up our concerns on these subjects. We leave it up to you to take it from there.

We have also been strongly suspecting, as have others, that the sudden and extreme forcing of acceptance of homosexuality and the related threats to religious and political freedoms, and now even national sovereignty, are also connected to the population control and world government agendas. Otherwise, a lot of this just does not make sense.

Gays and homosexuality may be being used as an exceptionally effective way to smash traditional family life and the beliefs that underpin the begetting of children and respect for the inherent dignity, freedoms and rights of every person. Notice how Christianity, which upholds those principles the most, is being increasingly targeted the most, as it was also seen as the main obstacle and persecuted by past totalitarians.

On the far more positive side today, the story of Latino "Heartthrob" Eduardo Verastegui is one of a growing trend of influential people finally seeing the cultural corruption that they have been part of and deciding to reform the culture.

Vaerastequi, who will be in Ottawa this week for the National March for Life events, has made a huge u-turn from being a big star and knee deep in the muck of today's corrupt entertainment industry to one who now openly repents of that involvement. Further, he is passionately dedicated to producing life and love affirming entertainment.

Eduardo is on the vanguard of what we suspect will be many more stars who have had enough of being used, abused and spiritually suffocated by the "industry". This is definitely a good news story.

Environmentalist Extremists Call Humanity Virus, a Cancer, Large Families Guilty of “Eco-Crime”

Predictable exploitation of “global warming”, or winter “climate change” fears

By Peter J. Smith and Steve Jalsevac

LONDON, May 8, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) –  Environmental extremists are calling for a drastic reduction of the earth’s population to save the planet from global warming, saying the best “carbon offset” is no more carbon-dioxide emitting human beings.

The 1997 Kyoto accords sprang directly out of de-population advocate Maurice Strong's Rio conference in 1992, with Strong having a hand guiding the accords to fruition all the way, as a special adviser to the UN secretary general. Blaming increasing human populations and industry for many of the world’s problems, population control groups are now predictably using “global warming”, during cold winter months referred to instead as “climate change”, – a phenomenon many scientists contest is due to natural factors such as sun activity – to support their usual anti-human agenda.

A report published May 7 by the Optimum Population Trust declared that the best “carbon-offset strategy” was to reduce the number of human beings and thus defeat the “global warming” phenomenon.

“Population limitation should therefore be seen as the most cost-effective carbon offsetting strategy available to individuals and nations,” read the OPT report, A Population-Based Climate Strategy.

The report claims the climate cost of each new Briton over his lifetime equals roughly £30,000, and so projects the lifetime emission costs of 10 million new Britons by 2074 as over £300 billion. Therefore, the OPT recommends parents to invest in condoms (35 pence apiece) which would yield no children, but a “spectacular” climate savings of nine million per cent.

“The most effective personal climate change strategy is limiting the number of children one has,” the report says. “The most effective national and global climate change strategy is limiting the size of the population.”

“The greatest thing anyone in Britain could do to help the future of the planet would be to have one less child,” John Guillebaud, co-chairman of OPT and emeritus professor of family planning at University College in London told the Sunday Times adding parents ought consider the environment first when they have a child.

However, Britain has already been experiencing a considerably lower than replacement birthrate for some time and, according to a June 2006 BBC report, is expected to encounter a doubling of the proportion of the population over 65 by 2050.

The Sunday Times said the report indicated large families constitute an environmental misdemeanor or “eco-crime” as much as 4x4  SUV’s or failing to recycle. The Australian ran the headline “Children ‘Bad for Planet.”

Radical environmentalist, Paul Watson, founder and president of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, which tries to increase whale populations, in a May 4 editorial on his website denounced the “human virus” saying “We are killing our host the planet Earth”. See http://www.seashepherd.org/editorials/editorial_070504_1.htm...

Watson who has unapologetically called human beings the “AIDS of the Earth”, declared human beings must reduce the world’s population to less than 1 billion people, dwell in communities no larger than “20,000 people and separated from other communities by wilderness areas,” and recognize themselves as “earthlings” dwelling in a primitive state with other species.

“Curing a body of cancer requires radical and invasive therapy, and therefore, curing the biosphere of the human virus will also require a radical and invasive approach,” Watson said.

Although Watson’s extreme anti-human ideology is disturbing, his thesis is not at all dissimilar of the teachings of former US Vice President Al Gore, a prominent leader of the radical environmental movement.

In the book Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit, Gore called for a "wrenching transformation of society" to save the world from man-made ecological disaster. The first principle of Gore’s “Global Marshall Plan or Strategic Environmental Initiative” is to stabilise what he believes is an overpopulated world through the power of government.

European Parliament Accuses Croatia of Homophobia in Schools

By Gudrun Schultz

Croatia, May 8, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Croatia has been targeted by the European Parliament over a sex education curriculum that  opposes homosexuality and teaches abstinence before marriage, Eubusiness reported April 24.

Deputies for the EP accused Croatia of “supplying medically inaccurate and incomplete information about sexual and reproductive health and family planning as well as about available and legal contraceptive methods” in the proposed curriculum, in a letter sent to Croatian officials.

The reproductive health and sexual curriculum was introduced by the GROZD Association, a parent-based group, with the backing of the Roman Catholic Church. Croatia is almost 90 percent Roman Catholic.

The EP officials warned the curriculum could encourage “stigma and discrimination” and suggested it may violate Croatia’s laws against discrimination based on sexual orientation.

They condemned the curriculum as “gender-biased” and said it features “negative attitudes towards homosexuality, thus contradicting Croatian laws.”

The sex education program has received the approval of Croatia’s education ministry but still needs to be approved by the ministry of health before being introduced into the schools.

The EP’s move against Croatia follows a resolution passed two weeks ago by the EP to take “homophobic” countries to court. First on their target list was Poland, which members of the EP vilified as “hateful” and “repulsive” for refusing to promote homosexuality in schools, in a debate in Brussels April 25.

At issue was proposed Polish legislation that would make it illegal to teach pro-homosexual material in schools.

Leaders of the European Union governing body made it clear there was no room for opposition to homosexual activity in the EU. “Such a law, if it were to emerge, would be in contradiction with the European human rights convention and the EU charter on fundamental rights,” said Vladimir Spidla, European commissioner for equal opportunity.

Polish representatives gave a powerful rebuttal to the accusations from liberal MEPs, calling the resolution a “cynical manipulation designed to pull the wool over the European public’s eyes.”

Polish MEP Bogdan Pek said the accusations were “an artificial piece of theatre.”

“An attempt to carry out an assault on a particular member state that a bunch of liberals and lefties disapprove of. Poland is a tolerant, hospitable country. It is absurd to suggest that Poland is an island of intolerance in Europe. That is an insult and a lie.”
Croatia is not a member of the European Union but is seeking entrance and will likely be admitted within the next three years.

Latino "Heartthrob" Soap Opera Star Speaks out against "the holocaust of abortion"

Reprinted with permission from California Catholic Daily

Eduardo VerasteguiLOS ANGELES, May 8, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Model, singer and actor , "heartthrob" of countless women in Mexico and Latin America for his romantic leads in Spanish-language soap operas ("Herida de Amor," "Salomé", "Tres Mujeres") and movies ("My Gardener," "Chasing Papi"), Eduardo Verastegui has become one of the most eloquent voices against abortion in Mexico and the U.S.

The singer/model/actor, once caught up in the hot "vida loca" of self-indulgence, glamour, and money, says he has no fear of public rejection for denouncing "the holocaust of abortion." Verastegui has explained his pro-life convictions to various Mexican media outlets and has created an organization in California to help those in need, especially women who are experiencing untimely or difficult pregnancies.

In an interview with the magazine Hola, he said he was "very frustrated over what is happening in Mexico today. I think there is tremendous manipulation of the news that the Mexican people are being given. The law is based on lies, because abortion is a crime."

Abortion, Verastegui told the magazine, is "something so grave, so profound, it goes beyond any philosophy or religion."

The Mexican actor went on to say there is no justification for abortion. "Let women do with their bodies what they wish, but the baby? What happens to the baby who has no voice and can't defend himself? Perhaps 100 years ago there could have been doubts… that there was life from the moment of conception. But today it is something scientifically proven, there is no doubt."

He said that his own experience has shown that "most women who go there do not want to do it. It is something completely unnatural. I have been to clinics and when I talk with young women, they are scared, they feel alone and without help.

For many years Verastegui said he sought happiness in fame and in success but as time went on he realized he was "empty."

"In my search to know what was beyond this emptiness, I began to ask myself the great questions that everyone asks at some point in life: What am I doing in this universe? Where do I come from? Where am I going? What's the meaning of all this? And in this search… I realized I had been selfish, walking ahead blindly in vanity and pride... I wanted to do good things and I was not doing them," he said.

The actor said he has now promised himself he would never do anything that contradicts his moral principles or that would misrepresent Hispanics, "neither in film, nor in television nor in any other media."

His new movie, "Bella" (to be released on Aug. 15), was the winner of the People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival last fall. The independently produced film tells the story of Jose, an international soccer star who ends up working at his brother's Mexican restaurant, and Nina, a waitress he meets there. The plot touches on death, abortion, adoption, the importance of family, and the meaning of love - with the clear message that every human life is important. "No mere movie, it offers hope for the beleaguered anti-abortion movement to reverse the political tide running against it," wrote syndicated columnist Robert Novak on April 30.

When asked what caused such great changes in his life as a man and as an artist, Verastegui replied, "I was living in constant contradiction. What changed it was faith --the faith. It was a gift through the prayers of my mother."

Another First - UK Clinic to Weed Out Embryos for Cosmetic Defects

Embryos killed if they have potential for unwanted disorder or characteristic

By Gudrun Schultz

LONDON, United Kingdom, May 8, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Doctors at a British fertility clinic will begin screening embryos for cosmetic defects, the first time a license to do so has been issued in the country.

A business man and his wife applied to London’s Bridge Centre family clinic for screening procedures to ensure an embryo would be created without the father’s genetic eye disorder--the man and his father both have an eye condition which gives them a severe squint.

Doctors at the clinic were granted a license to screen for the cosmetic condition by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA).

During the screening process, embryos conceived in a laboratory are tested at the eight-cell stage to see if they carry the potential for the unwanted disorder or characteristic. If they do, the embryo will be destroyed and doctors will test another for implant into the mother‘s womb. Previously, the use of embryo screening was limited to severe disorders such as cystic fibrosis or blood disorders.

The procedure has been condemned by critics as a eugenics tool to eliminate those seen as physically unfit from society, with embryos showing genetic markers that indicate the child may develop a disorder discarded, in favour of genetically “pure” embryos. The international pro-life movement anticipated the eventual use of embryo screening to produce “tailor-made” babies.

Prof. Gedis Grudzinskas, with the Bridge Centre clinic, told the Telegraph UK that he believes the HFEA’s decision to permit screening for an eye disorder marks the beginning of a widespread relaxation of screening rules, Prof. Grudzinskas said. “We will increasingly see the use of embryo screening for severe cosmetic conditions.”

He said he would screen embryos for hair color or any cosmetic condition that caused distress to parents.

“If there is a cosmetic aspect to an individual case I would assess it on its merits. [Hair colour] can be a cause of bullying which can lead to suicide. With the agreement of the HFEA, I would do it.

“If a parent suffered from asthma, and it was possible to detect the genetic factor for this, I would do it. It all depends on the family's distress.”

Dr David King, a microbiologist and the director of Human Genetics Alert, said he strongly opposed the use of genetic screening for cosmetic conditions.

“Philosophers love to deride the idea of a slippery slope, but here it is in practice,” Dr. King said. “We moved from preventing children who will die young to those who might become ill in middle age. We now discard those who will live as long as the rest of us but are cosmetically imperfect.”

Dr. King accused the HFEA of violating its own guidelines for permitting embryo screening. “The HFEA has ignored public opinion and has ignored its own rules which say that PGD should only be allowed for serious medical conditions.”

A spokesman for the HFEA defended the decision, saying, “We give consideration to any couple who come to us through a clinic. We judge each case on its merits, and it would depend on the severity of the case and the effect on the family. The experience of any parent living with a condition would be taken into account.”

First March Celebrating Life and Family Held in Brussels

By Gudrun Schultz

BRUSSELS, Belgium, May 8, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Thousands of pro-life and family supporters turned out to march in the first European Family Pride demonstration held in Brussels in front of the headquarters of the European Union.

Organizers said the event was intended to bring Catholics together in a show of public support for Church teachings on marriage and family, in the face of growing political liberalism.

Jean-Philippe Raspail, event organizer, told media, “We do not have a tradition of representing our interests as do Catholics in Spain, Portugal, and Italy.”

Alain Escada is the president of Belgique and Chrétienté, an organization dedicated to countering the growing assault on religious freedom in Belgium. In an address to participants he said the family is “anything but an old-fashioned concept. On the contrary, it remains a high ideal.”

Escada called on the “hundreds of associations defending family life” to come together across borders and coordinate efforts to combat the assault on family life and values in Europe.

The European Family Pride Manifesto reads, in part:

Because the family is the foundation upon which a well balanced society is built.
Because weakening the family endangers society itself and is opposed to the common good.
Because we want a society which encourages motherhood, which welcomes the child, protects the disabled and which provides for the well-being of the elderly.
Because we are opposed to abortion and euthanasia.
Because we are utterly opposed to babies being created for spare parts and the human cloning.
Because we want the scientist to recall what is moral and ethical.
Because we believe in the institution of marriage.
Because we refuse to see it given over to parodies.
Because there are those who are playing God and who seek to invert the norm.
Because common sense has to prevail.
Because these same evils which afflict all of Europe.
Because if we want to have good laws we must stand together.
Because many decisions are made by the institutions of the European union.

Statement of Protestant Leaders against Anti-Catholic Bigotry

by Chuck Colson

As Protestant Christians and as Americans, we condemn the grotesque anti-Catholic bigotry that is now on display as a result of the Supreme Court's recent decision upholding the constitutionality of the federal law prohibiting partial-birth abortion.

We denounce as particularly odious a cartoon published by the Philadelphia Inquirer depicting the five justices who formed the majority in the case wearing Catholic bishops' mitres.  Scarcely less offensive were the comments of law professor, and former University of Chicago Law School Dean, Geoff Stone identifying the Catholic religious affiliation of the justices forming the majority and accusing these distinguished and honorable jurists of imposing their religion rather than faithfully interpreting the Constitution.

We believe it is our particular duty to condemn the bigotry we are now witnessing in view of the history of anti-Catholicism in our nation.  It is a stain on the Protestant Christian conscience that at one time many of our people accepted the vile teachings of Paul Blanshard in his book American Freedom and Catholic Power, and supported the anti-Catholic agenda of the group founded by Blanshard and others that now styles itself "Americans United for Separation of Church and State" (formerly known as Protestants and other Americans united for Separation of Church and State).

Just as Pope John Paul II acknowledged past injustices committed by Catholics, or committed in the name of Catholicism, against Protestants, Jews, and others and pledged to work against any revival of these injustices, we acknowledge past Protestant prejudices against Catholics and pledge to fight against the anti-Catholic bigotry we are now witnessing.  Our Catholic brothers and sisters will not have to wait to hear our voices forcefully raised against the bigotry now directed against them.

Because evil begets evil, we are not surprised that bigotry would emerge among those who have placed themselves in the service of the moral abomination known as partial-birth abortion.  For our part, we praise any judge, statesman, or citizen-irrespective of religious affiliation-who steps forward to tell the truth about the injustice of this horrific practice, or to expose the lie that baby-killing is somehow protected by our Constitution.

We call on our fellow Protestant Christians of every denomination-including those denominations that do not share our view that the life of the child in the womb must be honored and protected by law-to join with us in condemning the new anti-Catholicism that has, in the aftermath of the partial-birth abortion decision, reared its ugly head.  We hope that no Protestant Christian will bring shame on himself or herself and on the great tradition of Reformed Christianity by participating in this appalling bigotry or remaining mute in the face of it.

We also call on groups that present themselves as enemies of prejudice, including "Americans United for Separation of Church and State," to join with us in condemning the Philadelphia Inquirer cartoon and other manifestations of anti-Catholic bigotry.  This is a time of testing for them.  Are they selective opponents of prejudice? Do they regard anti-Catholicism as an acceptable form of bigotry? Are they content to see Catholics treated in ways that they would be the first to condemn if the victims were members of other religious traditions or minorities? By responding or failing to respond to our plea to them to join us in condemning the injustice being suffered by our Catholic fellow citizens, we will soon know whether their claim to oppose prejudice and bigotry is an honest one or mere hypocrisy.

Majority of American University Professors have Negative View of Evangelical Christians

SAN FRANCISCO, May 8, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) -  According to a two-year study released today by the Institute for Jewish & Community Research (IJCR), 53% of non-Evangelical university faculty say they hold cool or unfavorable views of Evangelical Christians - the only major religious denomination to be viewed negatively by a majority of faculty.

Only 30% of faculty hold positive views of Evangelicals, 56% of faculty in social sciences and humanities departments hold unfavorable views. Results were based on a nationally representative online survey of 1,269 faculty members at over 700 four-year colleges and universities. Margin of error is +/- 3%.

The data released today suggests that dislike of evangelicals is likely linked to personal religiosity and to political affiliation: Only 20% of those faculty who say religion is very important to them and only 16% of Republicans have unfavorable views of Evangelicals; the percentages rise considerably for faculty who say religion is not important to them (75%) and among Democrats (65%).

The IJCR's survey, The Religious Identity and Behavior of College Faculty, is the second in a three-part series on the political and religious views of American faculty.  Previously released research showed that professors are almost four times as likely to identify as liberal than as conservative, and that nearly two-thirds of American professors say their colleagues are reluctant to express their true opinions when those opinions contract dominant views on campus.

"This survey shows a disturbing level of prejudice or intolerance among U.S. faculty towards tens of millions of Evangelical Christians," said Gary Tobin, president of IJCR. "What's odd is that while a good number of faculty believe in a close, personal relationship with God and believe religion is essential to a child's upbringing, many of those same people feel deeply unfavorable toward of Evangelicals."

One-third of all faculty also hold unfavorable views of Mormons, and among social sciences and humanities faculty, the figure went up to 38%.  Faculty views towards other religious groups are more positive: Only 3% of faculty hold cool/unfavorable feelings towards Jews and only 4% towards Buddhists.  Only 13% hold cool/unfavorable views of Catholics and only 9% towards non-Evangelical Christians.  Only 18% hold cool/unfavorable views towards atheists.

A significant majority - 71% of all faculty - agreed with the statement: "This country would be better off if Christian fundamentalists kept their religious beliefs out of politics." By comparison, only 38% of faculty disagreed that the country would be better off if Muslims became more politically organized.

Rome’s Chief Rabbi Accused of "Racism" for Opposing Italy Gay Rights Bill

By Hilary White

Rabbi Di SegniROME, May 8, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Italian homosexual leaders are accusing Riccardo Di Segni, Rome's chief rabbi of “racism” for his stand defending the traditional family. Di Segni was speaking against proposed legislation that would create de facto civil unions for homosexual partners and cohabiting persons with equivalent rights to natural marriage.

De Segni spoke out against the “strange silence” of Jewish leaders “on this hotly debated issue,’ in an article to appear in the Jewish monthly Shalom.

The ANSA news agency quotes Di Segni: “Society is about to make a decision which, according to our traditions, abundantly exceeds permitted limits and it is our duty to oppose these decisions and not remain indifferent.”

Franco Grillini, a homosexual MP accused Rabbi Di Segni of “unacceptable anti-homosexual racism.” Grillini is honorary chairman of top Italian gay rights' association Arcigay that is campaigning for the bill.

In the meantime, a Family Day demonstration is planned for Rome this Saturday in the Piazza of St. John Lateran. Organizers hope to draw between half a million and a million supporters of the family. The Roman daily newspaper, Il Messaggero, reported that the lay group Communion and Liberation has asked all its members in Rome to open their homes to Italians coming from other parts of the peninsula for the rally.

The rabbi is not the only religious leader to come under fire from homosexual activists in favour of civil unions. Last week Pope Benedict XVI expressed his solidarity with president of the Italian Bishops Conference, Angelo Bagnasco, who is under police protection after threats appeared scrawled on the walls of Genoa Cathedral. The archbishop received an anonymous envelope through the mail containing a bullet and a picture of the archbishop with a swastika carved into it.

Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, writing on behalf of the Pope said the Pontiff urges the prelate to “continue in his work for the common good, defending and promoting those human and religious values without which it is impossible to build true, free and stable democracies”.

APA Panel Convened to Discuss Abortion After Effects is Stacked with Deniers

By Hilary White

GROVE CITY, Pennsylvania, May 8, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Does the fact that the American Psychological Association has agreed to examine the possible adverse effects of abortion on women’s mental health mean the organization is reconsidering the issue? Warren Throckmorton, a psychology professor, counsellor and writer says, “Very likely, the answer is no.”

The APA has convened a panel of experts to examine the possibility that women might be psychologically traumatized after abortion. Throckmorton points out, however, that each has gone on the public record saying there is no evidence that abortion has any long-term negative consequences for mental health.

Dr. Throckmorton warns that the APA’s committee is necessarily biased, pointing to the APA’s longstanding advocacy of abortion. In 1969, the Association declared that “termination of unwanted pregnancies” is a mental health issue, and resolved that “termination of pregnancy be considered a civil right of the pregnant woman.”

The committee is charged with reviewing the published scientific literature on the impact of abortion on women’s mental health and will report its findings in 2008.

Given the APA’s stated bias, however, it seems unlikely even to some of its members that an objective examination of the facts is possible. Dr. Rachel MacNair, an APA psychologist who calls herself a “pro-life feminist,” told Throckmorton, “Although the APA included two experts on the trauma of domestic violence and an expert on methodology, three members have clearly stated ideological commitments to the ‘pro-choice’ perspective.”

MacNair said, “Only if the report comes out with conclusions opposite to what one would expect with the ideological commitment of half of its members would it have credibility; if it comes out as would be predicted, the absence of balance on the task force will be a problem for its scientific credibility.”

MacNair relates that she has experienced women who have claimed a connection between their abortions and subsequent psychological distress and been dismissed because of the APA’s official pro-abortion position.

Study: 83% Of Parents Say Its Important For Their Child To Save Sex Till Marriage

WASHINGTON, DC, May 8, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A Zogby poll released today shows that parents are far more likely to favour abstinence education over so-called 'comprehensive' sex education which focuses on proper use of contraceptives.  The poll found that 83% of parents think it is important for their child to wait until they are married to have sex.  And further that 78% of parents think sex education classes in public schools should place more emphasis on promoting abstinence than on condom and other contraceptive use.

The poll was commissioned by the National Abstinence Education Association (NAEA) and reveals that when parents become aware of what abstinence education vs. comprehensive sex education actually teaches, support for abstinence programs jumps from 40% to 60%, while support for comprehensive programs drops from 50% to 30%. This sharp increase in support of abstinence education is seen across all political and economic groups.

The results come as as federal and state lawmakers are debating funding for sex education in public schools.

On that question, the study showed that 59% of parents said more funding should go to abstinence education while 22% said more should go to comprehensive sex education.

"These results confirm broad-based support for abstinence education, including teaching teens about developing healthy relationships and increasing self worth and self control," said Valerie Huber, executive director of the NAEA. "While abstinence education has been continually misrepresented by its opponents, we were confident that parents would strongly prefer abstinence education over so-called 'comprehensive' sex education after they received full, accurate information about this common sense educational approach."

The survey also showed overwhelming parental support for how abstinence programs permit an age appropriate discussion of contraception within the context of promoting abstinence as the healthiest choice. In line with the abstinence education approach, most parents (93%) said they want their children to be taught the limitations of condoms in providing complete protection against specific STDs and to learn how often condoms fail in preventing pregnancy based upon typical use.

The majority of parents reject the so-called "comprehensive" sex education approach, which focuses on promoting and demonstrating contraceptive use. Sixty-six percent of parents think that the importance of the "wait to have sex" message ends up being lost when programs demonstrate and encourage the use of contraception.
